A good idea was sugested by Trout Myster. To exchange and trade fishing trips. I like the idea since you'll have opportunities to fish new waters and meet some other serious fisherman and make new friends. Personally, I can think of many areas I've never fished and would love to explore different fisheries and meet other diehard fisherpeople.

Jen are you catching this?? Could you setup a new area for swaping fishing trips?

This would be great since a number of people live in Washington and Oregon and wouldn't be to difficult to commute back and forth and fish those other rivers.

Any ideas and suggestions????

Excellant idea Hookset and Troutmyster. If we have room somewhere, I think fishers could list where we fish, what fish, boat type, days available, e-mail address, etc., on a trade-a-trip board? Jen, anymore room on this program software?

From now till Spring Chinook time I fish for Sturgeon. I some times go to the John Day arm for Steelhead also. I don't know anything about winter Steelhead in small drift boat rivers and not interested in bank fishing, but I would like to trade a Sturgeon or John Day arm trip for a drift boat Steelhead trip where I can't take my inboard sled.

SLUTGODDESS,
I would trade you a day of floating the Siletz for Winter Stealhead, In exchange for a Sturgeon trip. I have all the gear you need and 3 days a week every week to fish.

Willie....That sounds like a good trip. Lets set up a day for you to fish Sturgeon.

Too bad the Bankies couldn't get involved. All I have to trade are a few quarts of Salmon Eggs.

Shannon- and other bank fisherpeople: Personally, just because you don't have a boat trip to trade, I don't think you should be left out of the "trade a trip" idea. I'm buried at work right now and my time is really limited for any kind of fishing, but when I get going on it, I typically always have room in the boat for another person. Salmon eggs (especially this year!) are probably pretty good bartering material. Besides, even if you can't provide a boat trip, I still spend much of my time beating the banks for steelhead/salmon and I'm sure everyone out there has some tricks and techniques that would make the trip rewarding. Sharing the boating costs is a big help in itself. Best way is to just ask the iFishers for a boat ride. You're welcome to go in mine when I get the time to get it out on the water again!

Sounds like trading trips and creating opportunities to catch fish is already a winner in the making. I really like what I'm reading here so far and look forward to seeing more people get involved.

Anyone else interested in this idea? Before Jennie dedicates space on IFish (if there is any room left), it would be nice how many folks like the idea of sharing/trading trips. We could still use more responses.

So far I count 10 people including myself.

thanks, hook

Trading trips was a thought out of the blue but so far, it sounds like Slutgoddess and Willierower have exchanged some potential trips and Shannon and myself are working on a sturgeon trip as well as just exchanging some friendly e-mail. Jennie, it would be great if you can scrounge some space on the site for a trade-a-trip board. Maybe put it in below the for sale items. Could be simple as leaving it open to be written by the trader (or tradee) or more structured to have a place for entries like 'will trade a day on the Wilson in a driftboat for a day at Bonneville fishing for sturgeon'. Can be as simple or elaborate as you feel appropriate. I have to perform most of my day's work on one of these crazy computers so to me, simple is great. Would hate to see this slip away if it's something the iFishers would put to use.

Trout, myster (never have figured out how I ended up with that comma in there!)

The only thing that is holding me back right now is liability issues.
Ifish would be partially liable, should there be a boat accident, just as Ifish would be partially liable should we start a kids fishing board and something went awry there.
It all scares me, and I don't have business insurance... Gosh, I don't even really have a business!
Anyway.....At present, I am still pondering the possibilities.

Hi Jen,

Don't you just hate this who is liable stuff?
It throws a wet blanket on so much fun. Hope there is a way to work it out....Several of us have already hooked up on this page sooooooo....where do we stand in your opinion?

IMHO Bill, if you get skunked you should sue both the guy who took you fishing and Ifish for skunk trauma. Any ambulance chasing lawyers reading the BB here? ... I would think as long as Ifish is not directly recommending you fish with someone and is not getting paid by participants for matching fishers together, that there would be no basis for any liability on the part of Ifish. Furthermore, there are the overiding laws of assumable risk, certainly inherant in any type of boating. Assumption of obvious risk on the part of a willing participant has derailed many baseless greed suits brought by hapless lawyers that are then scolded by the judge and told to take a quick walk. However, if "provable gross neglegence" by a boat owner/operator were responsible for seriously injuring or killing someone, that would be a different story. That's why there is liability insurance for boat and auto owners/operators. But don't rely my advise, I don't want to get sued. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif - RT

Well, I see Jennie made a decision and we now have a "trade a trip" board. Not sure how many offers she will get for "one" trip down the Kilchis for a "week" in Alaska, but I'm glad to see we've accomplished this much. As far as liability, and I'm sure as h--- not a lawyer, I don't see where iFish would ever be held liable for two or more people agreeing to swap a fishing trip. That's between them when they meet and launch. Most all boater have (or should have) liability coverage. I can't say it wouldn't be tried by someone somewhere (idiots try strange things), but I think in court it would end up being one-on-one and iFish is just a message board. Besides, if you did the same thing in the newspaper ads, that's up to the individuals and the newspaper is in no way responsible. Very glad to see this board and I'll be posting on it soon for drift trip in exchange for a sturgeon or walleye trip. Thanks, Jennie!
