I'm having some issues with the PTT button on my Yamaha F150. Until today it worked perfectly. Now when I try to raise or lower the motor the needle on the trim gauge goes wacky until I let go of the button and then it reads the trim angle fine. There is also something odd when raising/lowering the motor. Its almost like there is a hiccup when first hitting the button. The motor starts to move and then the hiccup and then it moves again.

The PTT button on the motor is working fine,it moves the motor fine with no issues at all.

The only thing I can think of is when the guys at NR added some courtsey lights last week they maybe cut the insulation on the PTT wire and now its shorting out occasionally.

The switch for the courtesy lights is next to the trim gauge on the dash.

I pulled the throttle lever apart and everything seemed in order.

Any other ideas?

Ichthy- There are at a minimum of three different places that the wiring harness connects to the motor. The wiring harness connects at your throttle harness, your tachs, and at the motor itself. If any of these connections come loose it can cause intermittent problems. I would start at where the harness connects to the throttle. Next would be where the tach trim sensor ties in to the harness. Final would be the harness to the motor. A loose connection could cause power to arc across the connection, losing voltage but still being enough to activate the PT motor. This drop in voltage would also cause the trim gauge to go wacky.

Since the trim switch on the motor works fine, then it's not on the motor. My bet is on the throttle harness.
