I just got some new jigs on the market that truely seem to have a different quality to the marabou feathers than anything I've seen before. They have outstanding fluff and water action. I have only tried them in my sink so far. The only thing I caught was some flack from Mrs. RT. I told her these weren't sardine filets http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I did some direct underwater comparison to others and these Silent Approach jigs really look like fish catchers to me. I'll have my jig expert pal Mark field test them with me. Can't wait, bring on the steelies! E-mail info available at SilentApproach@usa.com - RT - I just found their website URL, which has info and pics at http://www.geocities.com/Pipeline/Cliff/4563/SilentApproach.html

Nice looking jigs. They are actually made the same way I make them. Palmered maribou just means splitting and wrapping the maribou hackle around the hook. It makes the maribou stick out and gives it a nice pusing look in the water . Plus you can palmer various shades of color in a row giving a beautiful color fade to the jig. You can drill out a couple of beads with a dremel and give a beaded palmer look which is stunning to behold. And then you can watch someone toss out a 15cent white or clear tube skirt(crappie style) on a 19 cent strong 2/0 hook without any nice float and boom Fish On. (a very good and quick rig by the way)Sometimes the fish gods have a strange sense of humor.

Hey Steve
Those are nice looking jigs. When your foot gets better, I'll help you field test the jigs on the Wilson. You don't have to wait for the Steelies though. As the little girl in the movie Poltergeist said "they're here".

I've tried the palmered style jigs and found them to not be any better than the regular marabou style, in fact they don't seem to hold up to the fish well and for $2.00 each?!!! I think Jim Bradbury had the right idea when it came to making jigs........I feel fortunate to have got into jig fishing thanks to him. For my money Rainbow Jigs has the best jig going and for $1.50 each are a bargain! They have an excellent marabou jig that I have had many multiple fish days on and the hooks are strong enough for any Steelhead. The marabou jigs are available in over 40 color combos. I've been fishing jigs for 10 years almost exclusively and tried them all and these are the best fish catching jigs I've used. They can be contacted at rainbowjigs@aol.com, they have a nice little catalog they can mail out to you.

I've ordered jigs and jig heads from rainbowjigs several times and have been very impressed with their quality. You simply can't beat their customer service too.

The Silent Approach is certainly a very beautiful site to visit. The jigs are exceptionally well tied and the use of kevlar thread just underscores the point. Nice photography (jig closeups), just makes you want to tie one on and give it a toss. While a well tied, beautiful jig may not catch more fish some days, a fine rod and reel also won't help some days but it is certainly more fun to fish with.

Jigs for steelhead? Jigs hammer every fish that swims in BC. Big nooks and coho can't resist them. Now this is where a short rod really shines. Try tying them a little bigger (1/2-3/4 ounce) and really pop them along. Palmered or not it rarely matters. I palmer the smaller jigs (steelhead size) and clump the large ones. Chartruese, pink, orange, black, purple they all work. Even in tide water on some of our smaller systems guys are using them.

I'm going to get run out of BC, by dawn, but that's the way it goes.

We'll give you asylum down here Billy http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Hey, they gotta know everybody knows about jigs by now, including for salmon too. I think you'll be OK. BTW, have you ever tried drifting them right along the bottom w/o the floats? Try that sometime on less snagy drifts, with a little scent added on the jighead (not the marabou of course) http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif . Also, do they let you put a piece of sandshrimp tail curled onto the hookshank tucked up under the marabou, on 'classified' rivers? Don't try that, you guys catch enough fish already.
