After seeing a couple people wearing latex gloves for fishing I decided to try them. Not sure if the idea is to keep the human scent off the bait or the bait smell off the human. I bought 200 gloves at Costco for $10. Since it was cold yesterday morning I wanted to wear my fingerless wool gloves too. At first I was going to put the wool gloves over the latex glove but a better idea was to put the latex gloves over the wool ones. The latex gloves kept my hands dry and odor free. My wool gloves didn't end up wet and smelly either. I'm sure my hands were much warmer with the gloves than they would have been without. It didn't take long to get used to the feel of the gloves. Tying knots took a little getting used to because it's easy to get the glove caught in the line as it is being twisted. Not difficult to overcome that problem. Aside from tearing one glove with a hook as I was getting started, one pair lasted all day. My experience was good. I like them. I'm not sure how they work when your rowing but I'll find that out next trip. Have any of you tried them? What do you think?

I would probably have to cut the thumbs off at least so I could fish, but I like the idea of the thin latex gloves. I have been eyeing them for a while.

When I would jetski in the middle of the winter I would smear vaseline on my face so the windchill didn't bother me. Worked great and water repellent too.
So maybe we should break out the smelly jelly on the cold windy days http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif perhaps NOT

Dave,

I have to agree, latex gloves are worth the cost(co)! Man, am I getting ripped off, I pay $8 for 100 gloves. But, with a little imagination you can turn those gloves into hours of quality entertainment on a slow fishing day! And you can always shout "I have rubber gloves!" to the other boaters out there and watch them pull anchor and row swiftly down river, leaving all the holes to you!

But seriously, they do keep the scent off the bait and the bait off of you!

As for rowing, never had a problem, and just keep tying gear with the gloves on, after some practice it gets easier!

Dave, I always use Latex gloves while fishing for salmon, There are a couple of reasons that I do:
1) Smell is very important for catching salmon. They can be very picky so the less human smell I think is better.
2)Some of the chems I use (like sulphite) can and will dry your hands out or burn them
3)My wife doesnt like me to smell like eggs for 2 days http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
4)They are cheap and disposable

I also use them when curing baits and cleaning my fish.I dont usually use them when steelhead fishing because tying knots are a pain in the a$$ http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
Note: If you hook a fish take at least the glove that you hold the rod with off because as soon as you go to thumb down on the fish and it takes line the glove will get pulled into the spool....it has happened to me several times especially when the glove is wet.I hope I helped answer any questions-Good luck-John

If you ever saw Mr Pervie on tv with the vaseline on ..... thats the look only with a dry suit on. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif It was actually great, we would have the place to ourselves. Buddy moved so I haven't been skiing for a couple years now. Anybody need a used jetski http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I would even trade for a drift boat http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
