Should I grease my trailor ball and hitch? The last time I towed the boat on the trailor I noticed a lot of rust dust on the ball. Well, there's no question as to where that came from, but is greasing it up vs just spraying on rust preventative (i.e. WD40, I know it's not a lubricant)necessary?

I always put a dab of axle grease on my ball. it helps hitching up. Seems to trailer better.

:yeahthat: I allways use a dab of grease on the ball, just be sure not to rub up on it, tends to make a mess of your pants. There is even some after market covers for your ball, ie: fish heads, school logo's etc. tight lines

Balls and couplers wear out. A bit of grease will prolong their life.

Hitch ball covers are used to keep dirt out of the grease. If you don't use one, wipe the dirt off the ball and put new grease on the ball when hitching. A spray can of anti-sieze also works great to lube hitch balls.
Greasing the ball will prolong the life of your hitch and it also allows the hitch to close and lock in place much more easily.
