View Full Version : Sturg
Has anyone fished for sturg between Rooster and Beacon lately? If not sturgeon how about anything else? I'm not too picky. Just as long as it wiggles and pulls a little I'll be happy. A case of cabin fever setting in. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif I gotta get out! Thanks

Please excuse me Ed. I must have found myself speechless earlier over your Q. I think the fever is getting to all of us! ... What was the Q? ........ Oh ya, I have heard of some sturgeon being caught up in that area; I don't know how good it is though. I know the water's not low there http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif . Probably getting a little too cold for the walleye to pull and wiggle? Too early for winter steelhead? I'm not helping much more than my above post am I Ed? Maybe a sturgeon guru will happen by this post and have the answers. Until then try calling the Fishery Marina and Tackle Shop up near the Beacon Rock area at 503-374-8577 for a report. Let us know here under this post what ya find out. Thanks. - RT

Hello,I went sturgeon fishing about a week ago abd caught a gazillion little ones rangeing fromm about 14" to 40" no keepers !!
I fished untill,I ran out of smelt and roll mop.I went thru two dozen smelt and a jar of rollmop. So if you just want your line to get jerked and have a lot of fun its time to go.I waiting for a friend who's fishing at the dam yesterday to call me,I think thats the place to go right now for keepers.Have a great holiday.

I went up to the gorge yesterday. As I left I205 and headed east the temperature started to drop. By the time I arrived at Rooster Rock the temperature was 34. I can handle fishing in the cold however, the wind was blowing out of the east hard. There were white caps and significant swells. Since it was just me and my dog I errored on the side of caution and didn't venture out. However, I did stop at OC at fished the Willamette for a while.
It rained but there was hardly any wind. I pulled plugs for a couple of hours just to see if I pick-up an early steelhead. No dice. I got tired of being cold and wet so I dropped anchor threw out a diver and a Hotshot and turned on the heater and radio. If I wasn't going to catch anything, I was going to be warm doing it. Still nothing.
There were two other boats and a half dozen bank anglers out there and I only saw one fish netted. The boat that caught the fish was trolling up-river to the bridge (I205) and back pulling plugs.
Oh well, the trip was still worthwhile; I at least I got on the water. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

SMART decision Ed! I live on that river and
it ain't worth dying for, especially a
prehistoric "carp" although I too am having
bad spells of cabin fever and it's just
now winter! Recent "real cold" sat my old
butt down too. Soon....soooon.....
Good ole' sturgeon fishin' fills in the gaps
though, don't it?
