Hello,

I have been reading that people are catching sturgeon in the Gorge and in the Portland area. Bait of choice seems to be smelt and sand shrimp. Does anyone know where in the Portland area that you can buy sand shrimp? Thanks!

I'll vouch for Marie's shrimp. It is the absolute freshest shrimp around. I had to stop by after the carcass chuckin just so I had the best for Sunday. Two weeks ago I drove to TBC just for bait. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I think I'll try the mail order next time! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Fisherman's and joes has some but I find half are dead. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have used the ones from GIJoes and caught plenty of fish. Fresh shrimp are nice, but you will still catch em on the ones from Joes. Especially stinky old sturgeon.

Fresh Shrimp is hard to beat. It can also become expensive quick especially when you have a winter feeding frenzy going on. We ran out awhile back and wrapped a Terry clothe on the hook and dacron with stretchy thread and loaded it with scent. Guess what? They still took it.

When in doubt set the hook

fishineer,
Try Fisherman's Marine and Outdoor in Delta Park or Gi Joes in Delta Park. If your going up the big creek stop by Jack's Snack and Tackle in Troutdale by Glen Otto Park and the Troutdale bridge for fresh sand shrimp.

Always open the containers to check that the shrimp are fresh and alive. If they are black and smell bad http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif move to another container. Don't be afraid to go through a few containers till you find the ones you want. Good huntin'

dfb.

Yes, unlike many other tackle shops, Marie's sandshrimp at TBC are always fresh and kicking! Wish I could say the same about myself some fishing mornings http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif. - RT

Now ZaQ, since when are sturgeon stinky? Ugly maybe, but not stinky. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Some of those shrimp containers at Joes can be down right nasty! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif Maybe their shrimp would be better suited for catfish. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
