Was thinking about fishing for Sturgeon around St. Helen or Kelly Point.

1st are they close enough to run by boat?

2nd How far from the Kalama launch is St. Helen..How long a boat ride?

..We fished hard from County line up to the grain terminals in Kalama Sunday and only got two shakers...Didn't have any Sand Shrimp but we did have nice Smelt. We'll have some Shrimp this time...Thanx for any help....Barn

Don't feel bad. I think Sunday bad for all. We through everything at them at kelly point and got zippo! A few bites but no hook ups. Not even on sand shrimp. Folks were jumping around from spot to spot lkie I had never seen.

As far as boat ride, I think your looking at a long one. Especially if your thinking of kelly point from kalama. I'm sure someone here will know.

Barnyard,
It's not too long of a boat ride from Kalama to St. Helens area, but if your going further up the creek you might want to put-in upstream. I believe it's around 30 minutes to St. Helens depending on the wind chop and size of your boat ( a good rule of thumb on this section of water is that winter wind blows down stream and summer wind blows upstream.
There is some good sturgeon water between the two points we are talking about. There are a couple good spots behind Sandy Island above Goble. Upstream Martin bluffs on the Washington side just below Martin slough entrance offers some good DEEP http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif water. Upstream around the 69 marker on the Wash ington side and 72 marker on the Oregon side. These are in no way "secret holes " so the early boat gets the "reel" honey slots. Also , deeper is not always more productive. Good luck and good fishin'.
