THe two sections on a Willie trailer ( Baker) that ussually have wood surronded by outdoor carpeting. I'm replaceing them, what's the minimum thickness they need to be ? I have some 3/8" and when I lay it on both bunks and then sight from front to back, the roller is taller than the line i sighted. Do I need to use 3/4" stock.

Another question, will the UHMW wear off the coat it or glove it bottom ?

Thanks, Derek :help:

I have 3/8 UHMW on my db trailer and the roller is also higher in fact almost all of my trailers seem to have been higher never been a problem in the past 40+ years using a db.Yes UHMW will wear the bottom coating off in time so will rock.Teflon is the trade name of UHMW

My Rogue trailer has what appears to be synthetic decking (Trex or similar type product) as bunks. It works pretty slick and you should be able to find it anyplace that sells building materials.

Just be sure if you do use this type of material you drill the mounting holes oversize enough to allow for the expansion and contraction that will take place with temperature changes.

Also remember to counter sync the bolts or screws, the harder metals tend to cut or where down your aluminum.

I just used two layers, looks like about 3/4" , the boat sits about 3/16 to 1/4 above the roller. I did countersink enough so the tops of screws sit about 1/8" below the surface, that should take a while to wear down the uhmw.
Thanks for the info.

Teflon is flourocarbon, UHMW is "ultra high moleculer wear plastic i.e. high density polyethelene similar but better than hula hoop material. Good stuf and much tougher and loads cheaper than teflon!

You can use wood for the structure and put plastic strips on that. Look out that stuff is slick like ice when wet, tie your boat down good! The wood will last longer if you don't have carpet holding water against it for long periods. If you use plastic decking check with the manufacture about allowable load spans. UHMW on this board sell some, TAP plastics has UHMW sheets.

Plastic is kinda saggy all by itself.

I have had a couple of friends disassemble plastic shipping pallets and use the one inch plastic boards from the pallets to overlay their trailer's wood bunks. Seems to work pretty good and the cost for them was time and screws. They found a warehouse which gave them the pallets.
