I went to the WIlson with dreams of fighting a mighty summer steelie and than a chinook in the same day. HAH!!!!!!! I used my Spey rod to cast some really nice looking runs to no avail. I than fished several holes with bobber and eggs. Today was one of the few times I have not seen any fish rolling about. Not even one. What is going on? RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I wish I knew- its "spooky" -so empty,so not right.I hope the fish are "just late" but my gut feelings tell me to face the facts: even if a nice late run comes in- it won't compare to a normal run.
sure hope steelies aren't affected.

I recall in 1996 we had some heavy flooding for long periods of time, that was 4 year's ago. make sense to me and alot of other angler's I've talked to that the run is not going to as strong as expected. hopefully it did'nt wash out all the steelies too. I hope I am wrong.

Hey ZaQ,
Don't feel bad, I fished up on the Wilson river this morning too and had no luck. Although I did see a few fish roll early on in the morning in a few holes. I covered quite a bit of water and did'nt see anyone with a fish. It was a good day to be fishing, just could'nt find any biters.

Lippee is right, ZaQ, on the '96 flood. May have hosed (no pun intended) us out of alot of fish this year. However, I've fished the Wilson since 1983 and have seen the good, bad, and ugly. Until the river gets up to about 4.0 feet and stays there, it will be rough going. There are some fish, I fished a hole yesterday that had some in it but they were crimson to black, not worth messing around with. We need rain, but don't dance too hard! Not unusual for the Wilson to go to 8+ feet and the fish will go like rockets and be gone. Until the steelhead show, I'm considering sharpening up some sturgeon hooks if the gorge winds and weather will behave!

Yeah, I am just tying up some more winter steelie flies and dreaming of days gone by. If you are dying for something to do (and if your not) than sign up to help us help the fish. Go to IFISH carcass distribution site (http://zaq.4mg.com/carcass.html) and sign up!
