Since there are several firearm owners on this BB, I'll pass along an article from the Tillamook Chapter, Oregon Hunters Association, Sept./Oct. 2000, Newsletter:

"Senate Bill SB-2099 was introduced on February 24, 2000 as an amendment to the Internal Revenue Service Act of 1986. It will require disclosure for all firearms that you own. It may require fingerprinting, and impose a $50 tax for each firearm you own.

As an amendment of the Internal Revenue Service Act of 1986, this bill can be passed by the Finance Committee without a full senate vote. It will become public knowledge 30 days after it is passed.

Contact your Senators and Congressmen and tell them this is WRONG! Your freedom to own firearms may depend upon it."

This is the first I've heard of this, how about you?

There is also an article about PETA killing 1,325 animals last year in Richmond, VA alone, and the newsletter states: "I may be wrong here, but in my opinion it sounds like it is OK if PETA kills animals, but not OK if anyone else does it. HMMMM....."

This is clearly wrong ... no bill becomes law without the full Senate and House passing it on to the President for his signature. Someone at the OHA is confused.

If you want to read the complete act and how it would work you can find it here Senate Bill 2099 (http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/useftp.cgi?IPaddress=162.140.64.21&filename=s2099is.txt&directory=/diskb/wais/data/106_cong_bills). Also, if you remember your civic lessons (I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill and I'm sitting here on capital hill....) bills can't become law until they are passed by both house and senate and signed by the president.
