View Full Version : Texas Min. Wage

This whole topic really bothers me. Yes the min. wage in Texas is $3.35/hr. Are min. wage workers making this??? No!!! They are paid the federal min. wage which overides the local. Should we ***** about the guy because he didn't waste state time and money increasing the wage up to the federal level when it's pointless????
As far as the pollution in Texas, I'm not real clear about enviro. laws in Texas but I did just read how bad the air quality is in East Tx. The news report blamed it on manufacturing in Tx and gulf winds blowing it into Tx.
As far as enviro laws go in the nation, Gore might say he wants to bring the fish back. Go ahead and vote for him if you just want to go down to the local hatchery and watch them swim around. Because if you go after them with a rod/reel you'll be disrupting an enviroment he's worked so hard to protect. One of Clintons big enviro moves was a big wilderness area in Utah. Turns out it sits on top of one of the worlds largest clean burning coal reserves left in the world. Where's the second one you ask??? China...
If you look at Gore's voting history he's flip-flopped sides/views so many times who knows where he really stands.
And as far as his lies, I have a hard time believing anything a guy says who claims he spearheaded the movement to build the internet, when it was really colleges when he was about 2.
When he was at the Teamsters conference in Vegas he was telling them about some teamster song being sung to him when he was a toddler and how vividly he remembers it. Turns out the song was written when he was 22!!!
So needless to say, if he's dumb enough to lie about things that are easily checked, what the hell else is he lieing about.

He invented pants.

I totally agree about the "going after the fish with rod/reel in hand" instead of just going to go look at the purdeee fishies in the hatcheries. How long has GW been govenor in Texas? I don't think he created the pollution in Texas, and yes, being from the Gulf area, the winds flow right at an angle to hit the southeastern part of Texas pretty regularly. Note the paths of the hurricanes that come into the gulf. But this is Texas we are talking about. Who gives a hell about Texas anyway? Only thing good that ever come from Texas is steers and.....
and sung to him as a toddler. Ya see he meant when he had the mentality of a toddler...see ya got to get it right. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif he is a freakin' idiot.

Exactly what I was talking about THANK YOU go see my post on the Bush vs gore thread.

Utah was the state and they called the govenor of Utah from two states away at one
oclock in the morning. They were afraid what might happen.

$100.00 for the arthritis medicine Lodine; and he claims that his dog takes
the same medicine for $37.00, claiming "This is wrong!" FACT: Gore's aides
were quick to apologize for Gore's lie, saying the information was from a
Democratic study. Washington newspapers also reported that Al Gore wasn't
even sure his mother-in-law was taking any medication and wasn't even sure
she had arthritis. And, he doesn't know anything about his dog's
"arthritis".

FICTION: Al Gore said his father, a senator, was a champion of civil rights
during the 1960's. FACT: Gore's father voted against the landmark Civil
Rights Act of 1964 and was a racist who was fond of using the "N" word.

FICTION: Al Gore said that his sister was the very first person to join the
Peace Corps. FACT: By the time Gore's sister joined the Peace Corps, there
were already over 100 members.

FICTION: The same sister died of lung cancer years later and Gore vowed to
never accept tobacco money as campaign contributions. FACT: Just four

industry and said he was one of them because "I've planted it, raised it,
cut it, and dried it." He raised over $100,000 in "reported"
contributions.

was a "Brilliant Student". FACT: Washington newspapers said he barely
passed Harvard and consistently earned D's and C's.

FICTION: Gore claims an extensive knowledge of law as a result of his
extensive study at law school. FACT: Al Gore dropped out of law school.

FICTION: Gore claimed that his knowledge of God and spirituality came to
complete fruition while "finishing" divinity school. FACT: Al Gore dropped
out of divinity school.

1990's. FACT: Shocked scientists were quick to speak out, explaining that
the Internet had been in widespread use by government and educational
institutions since the early 1970's.

Tipper's. FACT: Author Erich Segal called a press conference to deny his
claim. (Couldn't he at least lie about a love story where his sweetheart
doesn't die?")

FICTION: Gore claimed that as a reporter for a Nashville newspaper, his
stories led to the arrests of numerous corrupt criminals. FACT: He later
apologized for his claim and actually said it was untrue (Also known as

it.

FICTION: Gore said just recently that if elected president, he would put
harsh sanctions on the sleazy producers of Hollywood's extreme sex and

Another lie they caught him after a debate was when he was whining about a letter he got from a high school student in Florida. He claims she had to stand during class because there wasn't room for her. Well by the next morning the principal of that school was all over the press saying no one ever had to stand during class, He did have one classroom that was pretty full. Why was it full?? They just received $100,000 in new science equipment and hadn't put it away.
Who was this poor girl you ask??
Her dad owned the restaurant that catered Air Force II the next morning when Gore flew out. Kind of ironic huh????

Why are we talking politics on a fishing board, just curious? Politics, religion, and your sex life or lack of should be kept at home. My opinion only!!

Oh, and Gore's enviromental views. Kind of odd he likes to talk about growing up on his daddies farm(which is now his). Which he didn't really grow up on. According to the farm workers all he would do is show up during the summer and torment them.
What became of this farm??? Why part of it is a strip mine now, polluting all of his neighbors downstream. yeah right he cares about the environment.

More than any other election I have voted in before, I researched the candidates for president using the internet. Reading miriads of public records, newspaper articles, voting records, interviews, etc. I concluded that both candidates have exaggerated, mangled facts, made mistakes and lied. I also noticed a trend that the scrutiny focused on Gore was far more than that of Bush, and that the press was far more lenient and forgiving to Bush. Bushes evasive responses on questions with subjects such as drug use, military record, environment, hate crimes etc. are just another form of lying in my book. Bush has not demonstrated a higher degree of honesty or trustworthiness than that of Gore.

In the end I voted for Gore, because I think he tops Bush in areas including:

Intelligence
Experience
More responsible fiscal planning
Environment

Even if we disagree, lets get along and go fishing,

p.s. some condensed views of the candidates in the form of newspaper endorsements can be found at http://dailynews.yahoo.com/fc/US/Presidential_Election_2000/endorsements.html

Also, I am in agreement with SLEDDER. I prefer the board to stay focused on fishing. There a plenty of places other than IFISH to do some politickin'. I originally got into this fray on some other thread because of environmental issues.

So I going to make a couple of fishing excursions, both herring in T-bay and bobber/eggs on the Wilson. I'll report anything of interest.

Good luck to all,

Nipper

Minimun wage, is a sore subject with me, Not all jobs are to be careers with advancement, or be able to sustain a particular lifestyle, young adults need a starting point to learn work habits and behaviors that are needed to work with others, there are some that are happy with minimun wage but for the most part this is a starting point or incentive to strive for more money. A lot of small businesses cannot afford the luxury having more than a few extra people at minimun wage, by the way the Federal Standard is $5.75/hour with a few exceptions. Education is a big part of how much a person will earn in a life time, College grad will make about 25% more starting out over a High School / GED.
The bottom line is the motivation and determination, don't complain if you don't try..............Steve
