Anyone been fishing this? I usually start about now and stay with it till the river gets muddy or the fish run out. Sometimes into January! Anyone having good success now?

Slutgoddess I have heard that the fishing is hit & miss. Two weekends ago everybody and there grandma has at least one fish in boat! But last weekend very few fish were caught.
I will be there this weekend Friday & Saturday and will post the results. Its my fishing buddys turn to drive so I will be in his boat 18' Hewescraft River Runner. VHF channel 68.

Sandy...Thanks for the post. Sounds pretty normal for the John Day. I just love the setting and can't wait to go. If you spot a green and gray North River...Gray top and a buch of dough balls onboard....be sure to say hello!
When you do a 2 day trip....do you camp in the lot or motel? I do both at times.
Good luck and hope to see ya!

Slutgoddess. I fished the John Day Sunday and caught an 8 pound native and a 14 pound hatch. We pulled plugs about 1 mile up from I-84 just past the boat access only park on the east side of the river. The water is about 15 feet deep, and slow. We were in a Hewes Craft 179 with an eletctric trolling motor. Good Luck

SG I will stay in a camper this time, I really like the John day setting also. Always look forward to it, been my favorite place to fish. My buddies boat has a gray top and black lettering and red pinstripe rIverrunner. Wave and show me all those cream filled donuts that RT eats.

Went last Saturday and the wind made it really tough to fish. Most boats were back on the trailer by noon. Fish checker told me 20 boats and 2 fish. I love this fishing hole but I think I will wait till later in the month and December to do it again.

Any updates available? Thinking about going this weekend. Any thoughts on whether it's better above the boat-in park or below? I also see a lot of folks out in the Columbia on the hiway side between the mouth and the dam.
Thanks!
