When I only plan to fish egg clusters I use a 1 hook set up for bactrolling (backbouncing or divers). If I plan on using sandshrimp, prawns, small whole herring (which work well just above tidewater), or an egg/shrimp combo I use the 2 hook rigup.

RT, how would you set up that egg/shrimp combo with 2 hooks? Also, in your dealings with double hook setups with corky and yarn, how do you set that up. I have done it various ways and had success, but I like talking to guides who's had more experience at this sort of thing. Now bass fishing....look me up http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Where it is legal,I use a two hook set up,For
back bouncing for salmon I use one size 6/0
red gammi with a size 2 treble hook for a stinger hook about one inch below regular hook. For steelhead bait and diver for sandshrimp I use a size one gammi for the trailer hook and a size 2 hook for the tail hook.Good luck, STRIKE ZONE

When salmon fishing in the columbia or willamette, we use a 3 hook setup with the third hook trailing just behind the tail of the herring. Don't know if it's right but it works. For sockeye we use just 1 red hook no bait, no corkie, no yarn.

'Yall, for a 2 hook rigup with sandshrimp I leave the corky or Birdie, whatever is right for backtroll water conditions, above the upper hook; unlike the Cowlitz guides who put a corky or cheater between the 2 hooks for boondoggin. ... I poke the upper hook thru the shrimp tail section near the end fantail, then loop a small egg cluster in the eggloop of the lower hook and curl it thru the thorax and out near the shrimp face. That's what I do for backtrolling. There are a myriad of ways to hook up a combo for driftfishing or floatfishing on either a single hook or 2 hook rig. Experiment with it until you get a good looking presetation that will stay on the hook well. - I use 5/0 lower hooks for big fall Kings, 4/0 for springers, and 1/0 for silvers and steelhead when backtrolling. I use small size 1 for clearwater driftfishing steelhead. Good luck 'Yall and y'all.

Rt are you using your sliding hook setup? With straight sand shrimp we use a single behind the diver. For eggs behind a diver I use a solid double hook setup. A spin glow and beads are placed on the leader above the baits. Depending on bait size the hooks are from size 1 to 5/0.

We have talked line, rods, and plugs, now lets talk hook set up. I would like to know it the majority of you fish a 1 hook set up or a two hook set up behind your bait divers?

Marty. I'm a little different than a lot of fishers in that I use dacron backing line to tie on a sliding upper hook on almost all of my double hook rigs. The one exception would be set non-sliders for saltwater plugcuts. I leave a 1/2" tag at both ends of the tieup so as to be able to retighten it if needed. This slider allows me adjustablility for different bait sizes, the allowance of putting eggs into the lower hook loop easier, and the dacron slides without friction weakening the line. In the rare cases the fish get hooked on the upper hook the dacron has held just fine. It's worked very well for decades for me.
