Fished the Alsea River on Sunday. We hooked four salmon on kwikfish up to 45 lbs, all were extremely dark and ready to spawn. The Alsea is now too low and clear to flow to float.

Hey BillK,

I'm sure you don't remember me as we only talked casually.

I went to OSU from 83-88(Go Beaves!) and was a member in the Corvallis chapter of the Northwest Steelheaders from 85-88'. Do names like George Perriard(sp.?) and George Swanson ring a bell? they were guys I met there, along with you and many others I can't remember.

Just thought I'd say Hi! from up here on the rainy, but very productive coast of Washington. How's the chapter doing? Still active?

Good fishing.

I fished the Alsea years ago when I lived in Corvallis and it can be a great river to fish. Not much on the boating part, but bank fishing can be good around 5 rivers and on down wherever it looks good to you. Sadly, it needs rain just like the Tillamook rivers and all the rest. My best salmon fishing was typically Halloween plus or minus 10 days...but then it used to rain in October!

Newt, good to hear from you. The Corvallis chapter of the Northwest Steelheaders is not in existent, but the Albany chapter is very much alive and doing well. I still see George Swanson on occasions, however George Perraid lost a battle to a brain tumor a couple of years ago - he was one super person. It has been great going to the Beaver games this year, been bring fresh Alsea salmon to the tailgate parties.

Has anyone ever fished the Alsea River? I have been hearing that the fishing is great down there.
