At this time, I would like to thank all of you spectactors at the Barrier Dam (Cowlitz River) for allowing my brother and I to pass by landing our fish. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif Now onto the story..lol
Well my brother Matt and I went down to the Cowlitz River Sunday morning. We didn't get down there as early as we would have liked because he had to take the ball and chain to work..lol Well we get down there and of course, it's totally crowded with people pouring in per minute. We contemplated on going down to Blue Creek, but I saw about 6 hookups in a matter of no time. He being new to combat fishing, we suited up, and I took him to one of my "good" holes way up from the elbow to elbowers. 2nd cast out...fish on...Nice 12lb or so silver. One good jump and the somebi#ch got off (that's southern lingo). Well of course I credited my new secret recipe oil..muh ha ha ha ha I decided I would do a role reversal and put the scent on my brother's rig, where I would fish without it. 15 minutes later, he hooks his first king. He struggled with the fish from the get go, and the fish got off. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif bummer. Well 2 casts later...zing...the fight is on again. A nice hookset in the mouth. Purdeee sweeeeet. Well the fish started heading downstream fast to where the crowd was so I immediately started running ahead of him yelling Fish on, Coming Down, Move it or lose it sister. People started getting the picture so they cleared way and made no casts. (totally surprised eh?) I chit chatted while he was catching up to his fish to the guys telling them it was his first fish so everyone starts cheering him on and clearing way plus adding in some advice. After 45 minutes of fighting the fish, he comes off the hook too, only 25 feet away from being landed. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif another bummer. Well we go to the store for a break so his arm could rest (LOL) and come back to our same spot. More people started getting the picture that we were going to do that alot so they tried creeping in, but didn't find our exact position, so we got in our spot again. A few minutes later, lil bro was into another fish! He didn't have a good hookset on this one either so it got off without a good fight. I finally was disgusted so I said let me see my oil and used it...5 minutes go by and low and behold, yours truly has hooked himself a fish...lol Of course I had to tell him I was going to show him how it was done so I began my seminar on landing kings in combat fishing situations. You yell your @ss off that you are coming down! Well I find a nice place to start bringing the fish into shore between several people...whom all were very courteous. I knew I had a hog, but I couldn't see the fish, but they said holy crap look at the size of that fish! 2 guys were jealous and I noticed them dipping their rods into the water while my fish was by their legs. With a few choice words they quickly moved their rods out of the way...lol One guy tells me that I am going to be super-ticked off and I didn't know what he meant until I got the fish at my feet. It was my first 30lb-er (2nd King to ever land) and the thing was a total chromer!!! Talk about p/o-ed. He was right. Well my brother was quick with the camera has I was unhooking it, posed for the ladies, and then showed my brother how to do a "correct" catch-n-release on a Cowlitz King. A few minutes and the beautiful hen was back heading upstream (hold all applause until the end of my story..lol) My brother was getting ready to leave since he had to go back and pick up his girlfriend. So I scented up his lure for 5 minutes to fish. First cast out, he sets the hook like a monster and the fight is on....everyone clears way thanks to my bellowing and my brother was a total champ by landing his 14lb buck (chrome bright as well!) I took his pic with his fish too and quickly returned him to the stream correctly. We packed the gear up and bowed to the crowd..lol Some days you rule, some days you drool I guess..lol All in all, 4 hooksets for he and 3 for me with 2 landed. The number would have been higher in the landed column if we didn't have to walk about 200 yards downstream to land the fish in slower water. Everyone was courteous, except for the 2 jerkies who dipped their rods down to hang my line, but they withdrew after my advice on where they could dip their rods. I will be posting the pics soon when the film gets developed so "y'all" be ready. I am walking on cloud nine because I am so proud of my lil bro. I grew up being his father figure/brother due to circumstances so I know how a father must feel when his child lands his/her first fish. Again, thanks to all who contributed to these memories. You represented "class". Now you can applaud..lol lol Sorry for the long-winded report, but I felt like sharing http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now why do you have to go and say that SOUTHERN BOY! It might of been a smart ass reply , but uneducated ???? My question is , if your so big and tuff why can`t you hold a fish in the hole your fishing ?? First time bringing a fish down , no problem , second time you might get a look , third time yelling your ass off to get out of your way ,i`m going to tell you to grow some hair and fight that fish toe to toe . Around these parts if you can`t hold a 30# FALL FISH , you need to be fishing in the kiddy pond ..Either that or get some heavyer gear .. But what do i know ..

Just my luck the referee shows up, and I was waiting for the ring card girl to make a lap between rounds. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif Gotta love those Bud babes in Bikinis telling us what round it is for those fight fans who cannot count to about 10 or 12. How deep in the south are you from Y'all? http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My my, temper temper. First off, you don't sit there and hold a fish in the hole and pull him in against hard current, well at least I don't out of sheer courteousy to the anglers below me. I wait on the fish to move, then move with the fish. It's catch-n-release, plus I don't like fishing heavy line when the water is so clear right now. I held my 30# fall fish buckaroo. Where we were fishing, you have to walk the fish down, otherwise your chances of landing him are slim to none. I am originally from B'ham, AL...then went to Univ. of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, but our family owns 3,000 acres in Florala, AL (that's deep south) It's about 2 hours east of Mobile B.O.E. Almost neighbors Osprey? What's to say that I am not the guy living next door...muh ha ha ha just kidding. Heading back down to the Cowlitz tonight for some night fishing. Let you guys know how we do. I got the pics developed from the fishing on Sunday and as soon as the new power chord comes in for the scanner, I will post them.
