hey guys, well i havent been up to silver lake this year yet. but im planing on it in about 2 weeks! i was just woundering if anyone has fished it yet? how are the temp's? how did ya'll do? and i heard that they planted 16,000 some odd triploid 3lb trout in there this year. what do you guys think about throwing a rainbow trout rattle-trap??

thanx.

Been Fishing Silver Lake since the first of April. We finally started catchin' them a week or two ago. Have been hearing loads of otber folks that have been catching through out april. The water temp has started to reach 60 and the fish are moving up. Water is really clearing up good also. We are fairly new at this so don't know all the in and outs of Silver but we're tryin our best.

What's the reasoning behind the rainbow trout rattle trap?

Basscaster
05-03-2006, 10:35 AM
I've never tried flippn or pitchn a trap........

Dave Smith
05-03-2006, 01:09 PM
Basscaster- it's easy as long as you know the lake like the back of your hand- che he.

pitchnboy
05-05-2006, 05:22 PM
the point behind the rattle trap is that, silver lake has had about 16,000 2-3lbs triploid trout and i thought that it might FIRE EM' up!!! and it just might match. i dont know yet. hey anyone been catchn bass on JIGS!?! my favorite!!

Dave Smith
05-06-2006, 03:03 PM
still not getting the point- are you talking about trying to catch the trout on the trap?, because I KNOW you're not thinking about using a three inch long lure to try to simulate a baitfish that is not really a baitfish at all because it is like 18 inches long. PS- yes, the jig bite is almost over but not quite- go get-em! Dave

pitchnboy
05-06-2006, 08:59 PM
DANG IT!!! fishing jigs are my favorite and strong point. how much longer will the jig bite be on??? i just think the trout trap would simulate the trout and i really think it would work!

thanx

If you really wanted to imitate the big trout, a swimbait would be the way to go.
If you know that they planted fingerling trout then by all means use the rattle trap, since 4 inch trout are easier for a bass to catch than a 2 or 3lb trout.

pitchnboy
05-07-2006, 09:05 AM
hows the jig bite??? i have an idea where to throw em' on the lake but just woundering where you guys have been throwing them...

Dave Smith
05-07-2006, 11:44 AM
pitch you can catch them year-round on jigs so it's all good. If you really want the jig bite, you need to get started alot earlier. Yeah, if you want to match the hatch, you need to start with the right size- you can't go throwin a 3 inch lure to represent a sixteen inch fish. First, only a TINY portion of the bass in Silver are going to eat these bigger trout, second, when they do, it is going to be about once every two weeks, third, when the eat them, they swim along side of them for a while and eventually get the fishes head in there mouth and it takes several more minutes to get the whole thing in there. Is that how you want to fish your swimbait?

pitchnboy
05-07-2006, 06:09 PM
i have a really good idea where to throw some jigs, but what do you guys think??? ya i think you guys have changed my mind about the trap....

hey i heard something about a tournament on Silver Lake about 2 weeks ago.... what went on?? how big were the fish?

WAID
05-07-2006, 10:36 PM
I think the largest one was 6 lbs. The limits weren't real big but Silver can be a little tricky.

ChannelCats
05-08-2006, 02:38 PM
The biggest bass was 7.1 lbs. Over 100 bass were caught, most in the 2-3 pound range.

ExBassGuide
05-16-2006, 05:49 PM
Yes you can fish it with a kick/pontoon boat. I would put in at the "Silver Lake Motel & Resort. Lots of piling rows and some good bays not far away! Did you get a copie of my silver lake map?????

HEY ANYONE GOING TO BE UP THERE THIS WEEKEND?

ChannelCats
05-19-2006, 03:46 PM
I just talked to the people at the resort. They said all the bass are deep in the weeds right now spawning and wont hit anything on top. Crankbaits in the lillypads are working best.

pitchnboy
05-19-2006, 06:53 PM
i was up there and i heard guys saying that there hasnt even been any sign of the spawning. no brushed up tail or the rear end. so brush and pads it is. anyone gunna be up there this weekend?

YES I fished Silver lake Sunday and got two very nice bass!
A 3 pound 13 oz bass and a 6 pound 3oz bass! pluss a few other keepers! All shallow!
Roger

pitchnboy
05-30-2006, 08:49 PM
hey roger are they spawning yet??? what i no what to throw at them, but just trying to get other perspectives, what you thrown at them buddy?

ExBassGuide
05-30-2006, 09:32 PM
Most of the bass at Silver lake have spawned (BUT). L.M. bass can spawn from Feb. - July. The bigger bass tend to spawn early. Try 4 inch plastics with a pegged sinker shallow! Look for logs or rocks and docks!
Roger

I will post the photo of the 6 pounder in a few days!

But you still got 5%.

yes roger i made up there and did some fishing. it was so wierd thou. i was at the resort and i was thrown a spinner-bait all around the boat ramp and got 3 nice bass!!! but then when it comes to get on the water i always get skunked in the boat, i either lose them at the boat or cant get them to bite. but i have only been up there twice :depressed:...

fishlipper
06-22-2006, 02:50 PM
Pitch,
You have only been to Silver twice? Seems like I recall a lot more posts about Silver than two? You got to get these monsters in the boat. Sounds to me like you might need a net

pitchnboy

ExBassGuide
06-23-2006, 07:59 PM
The sprin at silver can be like that (hit or miss), Now it's the summer pattern, you better be fishing darn early now! think rock, docks and pilings alos try some of the single pilings way off the back mid day!!!!!
Roger

06-23-2006, 09:48 PM

I was the first boat on the water at silver today. Managed 8 fish "5 keepers", with a 5lb big fish. This was actually a slow day compared to years past this time of year. The water was 67 in the morning, and 71 when I left at noon. All action was before 8am..... Cranks, senkos, and beavers were the ticket. I did spend a good deal of time in search of new spots, and lost one good one in the carnine ditch.

hey chad, where were you fishn at the Ditch. i hit that all the time.??

Chad S.
06-25-2006, 09:47 PM
Pitch,
the one i lost in the ditch was in a huge brush pile that had good shade from some lillies. to get there, go into the ditch, take your second left, go in about 25yards, and its on your right "kinda at a junction were someone has been doing some bulldozin" actually saw a deer in there which was cool....

06-27-2006, 01:31 PM
chad i fish that area ALL the time. ya i actually there are several deer in that area, i see them every time i go throught there, they scared the crap out of me. what were you thrown if you dont mind, ill hook you up on some tips!

Dave Smith
06-27-2006, 08:08 PM

Basscaster
06-27-2006, 10:10 PM
P-boy, you gotta help me out here. Half the time you sound like you own Silver Lake, the rest of the time you are begging for help. EBG seems to catch 'em, other guys struggle. Is this lake that difficult? I guess I'm just a little confused........ Or maybe I need to to get up there and cast a bunch of times and see for myself. Seems to be how I learn the most these days anyway.

Chad S.
06-28-2006, 06:49 AM
Pitch,
I would encourage you to re-read all ebg's past reports for silver. He has pretty much answered all there is to answer, and provided a heck of a detailed map. I'm no expert, but when fishing a lake with so much structure, you need to fish the DIFFERENT structure....IE a big brush pile which has good shade from the lilli pads might produce. We have all heard Roger say a million times, unless your fishing the island, you need to be fishing some sort of wood. It's no secret what works on this lake......senkos, jigs with plastic trailer, brush hawgs, beavers, and other creature baits to name a few. Stick with darker colors....IE green pumpkins, browns, black, and black and blue. Once you come accross a spot that appears different, then work the cover from the outside to the inside "this way if there is numerous fish on the cover, you will lesson the chances of spooking them" fish slow, fish patient, and most importantly fish with CONFIDENCE......

Dave Smith
06-28-2006, 09:00 AM
Hold up, there, Chad! If you give P-boy too many tips, he's not going to have any for you! he he. Basscaster: I've never been to Silver, sounds like you haven't, either. I am so curious about this mystery lake. In most shallow lakes, you would have to pray to God for ANYTHING submerged deep enough to hide a fish or two. Show me a "brushpile" in Sunset, right now and I'll show you a fish about 30 seconds later- he he. What do you say we go check this place out? Maybe we could even hook up with our sherpa guide, P-Boy so we don't get lost?
Dave

Basscaster
06-28-2006, 10:45 AM
Dave- That sounds like a plan. Combine all the hints from P-Boy and EBG's Holy Grail map I figure we might have a shot at breaking the Silver Lake code. Then again, I haven't quite masterd Flippn or Pitchn yet and my skills with the 3" senko are limited. But you know what they say......Never Give Up.

Hunt'nFish

well guys as roger said during the spring it can be a HIT or MISS... as i said ive only been there twice this year and yes i have caught fish everytime. and my moto is " Never Give Up" just like Mike Iaconellie, my FAVORITE Angler. and i do fish with CONFIDENCE with my Lamiglas rods. the reason why i seem like i beg is just to see other Anglers styles and what not. TOTALLY go with DARK colors and creature bait. and as well as JIGS!!! but seem to like to throw spinner-baits and cranks as well. HEY DAVE and BASSCASTER lets make a plan and seriously hit the WATER!!!
