Have you read any of Stan Fagerstrom's (http://www.ifish.net/basspanfish.html) columns?

Stan just did a series on how to pick a guide. Stan's articles are basicly 'built for bass', but I find that many of them apply to most any fishing.

I've seen some people on ifish looking for inexpensive guides. Believe me. You get what you pay for. If you ask on ifish, and start getting private pms from guides saying they'll take you for 50 bucks, or anywhere less expensive than the rest, beware! It may very well be a great deal, but ask yourself why they may need to do that.

It could be that they are just guiding part time, that they have seen you post and like you, that they just don't have much going on that day...

But.... it could be for reasons you wouldn't be comfortable with!

So, just be careful. Check your sources thoroughly!

Like I said, people do offer specials, despite their expertise, so it's possible to get a great deal. Just investigate. Know your captain! Ask another ifisher what they think, if you haven't been around much.

Most of all, happy fishing, and take time to read some of Stan's archives.

They are located on the archives portion of the Main Index, located on the gold bar at the top of every ifish page.

His column of archives is called Bass, Panfish and Products (http://www.ifish.net/forum/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB16)

When I first print them, they go on his own page, at top, but he archives them on the board.

Have fun, and happy fishing!

Very good information, but there are always variables to everything!

I guide mostly on Tenmile lake for Bass, I just started guiding last year and yes, I`m part time. I have to be, there isn`t enough business here to make it a full time venture. Even though I have only guided for one year, I have fished this lake for about 40 years and do everthing I can to give my clients a great fishing experience.

I would never do as you have mentioned, (Contacting members of this forum and offering discount fishing trips), that`s just tacky! Now as far as my rates, you will pay a lot less than you would pay for a comparable trip say in Florida because you just can`t charge what they do here in Oregon as far as Bass fishing goes.

I didn`t post this as advertising my services, if it over steps your guidelines, please delete it. I just wanted to state my veiws.
