The only thing I have used a gelatin mix such as Jello brand for in curing eggs is to add color. I usually mix rasperry or strawberry jello mix in with my natural colored cure to add a nice bright red color to the eggs.

Hey,
Shannon!
What Tanner said is true. Usually Gelatins (ie. - Jello) are only used to add color to the eggs. The sugar does add some toning qualities to them, but there is really no other beneficial effect.

I'm glad you found the sight, much better than the Oregonian Live board, huh? On the subject of curing eggs. My experience with jello use for curing eggs. Nice smell and color, makes one hell of a mess on your fingers, reel and rod. Nothing like cleaning your hands in the 36 degree water on a freezing January morning, to get the gelatin off your fingers. More hassle then it was worth for me, maybe I used too much. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
