This picture was taken in the Bitterroot National Forest in Montana on August 6, 2000 by a fire behavior analyst John McColgan from Fairbanks, Alaska with a Digital camera. Since he was working while he took the picture, he cannot sell or profit from it so he should at least be recognized as the photographer of this once in a lifetime shot.

Wow, this is really amazing for me because this picture has some unusual connection with me. My sisters boyfried has been a smoke jummper for about 25 years. He was at my sisters birthday party that we threw for her on Sunday (8th) in Corvallis. WELL, John, her boyfriend told us that his buddy, also named John, took this picture. He told us that under the bridge that he was standing on were also a deer and a bighorn sheep!!
For all the animals lovers out there, John did say that all these animals in the picture did survive http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif the fire!
John was also amazed of how this picture has circulated around the web so fast. I personally received it in two different emails too. So, Luvtofish, if you dont mind I will send you a copy in the email too!

It's easy! Right mouse click on the image and go to "save image as" and save it to your harddrive. go down to settings and over to active desktop and then down and over to customize my desktop. Go to background and use the borwse button to find the file. Click on the file to open it and click Ok. It should appear as your new wallpaper.

After seeing this photo I recommend renting "Red Sky's Over Montana", a movie about the Smokejumpers, that was filmed in the Bitteroot Mtns. They are headquartered near the Missoula, Montana airport (I was born and lived several years there before becomming an Oregonian). My Grandpa used to take my brothers and I out to watch them practice jumps. What you see in the picture is the drama they face during the summer fire season. Brave people for sure! - RT

Same as a lot of you it’s been my wallpaper for about a month or so. Got the photo from my wife’s uncle out of Montana. Only I did a little work to it in Adobe to make it more clear and fit it to best fit the screen of my monitor. There is nothing like Mother Nature at her work.

Wallpaper on my computer also. I would imagine we will see this picture on the cover page of a magazine before long.
