Kurt-
A friend of mine ties them up. If you can tie a fly, you can tie one of these. I'm not sure where he got the directions for the ratios.
Using thread, you basically make a tapered rope. You then soak this in something to help it float. I tried to write up the directions, but I don't think they work.
I don't know if you can buy them. I think that makes them all the better. They fish like a dream. Nothing will help you cast better or make your dry fly land so delicately as a furled leader.
I know the directions are in some old books, I just don't know what they are. I hope someone can help out.

This looked pretty informative but may take a little deciphering, or actually trial and error to follow along.

Yes, there is a site Gimme. A friend of mine came across it, built the board as described and made a furled leader. He brought it (the leader, not the board) to our club meeting to show us what it looks like and said he will bring the board to show how it is done. He also says it will lay down a fly like you can't imagine - soft and gentle with barely a ripple. As soon as I see his setup I'm going for it or perhaps I might just build the board as it is described on this site. Can't hardly wait.

I think this will get you to the correct place on the site. If not, just google globalflyfisher.com and on the upper left side in the search block type in furled leader. On the screen that comes up and about four or five threads down you will see something about furled leaders. When that opens, in the upper right side, I think, there is a block with 01234567 which are pages. Select 0 to start. I hope I didn't leave anything out. If I did, I think with a little persistance you'll find it. It is pretty descriptive and explained quite well. The one my buddy made was fantastic. A complete taper without any knots. He said don't get impatient. After the first one, it went like clock work. Lots of luck and I'd like to see a post on how you did.
Old fishermen never die, they just smell that way.

I learned to make them from the DVD offered on the above site. Kathy Scott Simple Furled Leaders. If the above link doesn't work, you can just do a Google search.

Kurt - There are a couple sites out there that sell them. Do a web search to get them, neither are Ifish sponsors
