I'm in the market to buy a 5 wt. dry floating line for trout, and have not purchased a new line in years. What do you like? I'm looking for good quality, float, and casting ability. Also, any suggestions for where to go for the best deal? Any web sites worth buying from?

TIA!

I have always used Cortland lazer line or Orvis wonderline and had good luck with it. Make sure and wash your line once in a while and it will last much longer.

I'll second the lazerline from Cortland, nice line, but this year I am going to try a Sage line on my Sage rod

Oh yeah, Cortland has a set price for the pro shops, doesn't matter where you buy it. Just support your favorite local fly shop!!!

I use the Sage Performance tapers and like them. I also use Rio. I would probably get a Rio Grand in your situation. I really like that line in the lighter weights.
I am not a fan of orvis wonderlines at all.

PTS swears the Wulff Triangle Taper with J3 finish is the best line available today!

I like Rio, Airflo and Cortland lines.

Cortland Sylk is a nice line i use it on an older cane rod, Rio lines are very good. The Rio Grand fly line is for fast action rods and the Rio Trout fly line is for medium action rods. I have used the Rio Grand lines and think they are very good, tight lines, brian

I really like the Rio selective Trout and the Wulff lines on my medium to medium fast rods. The Rio classic WF line is awsome on my 3 wt Winston. My fast rods like the SA GPX, but those "weight and a half" lines like the GPX and Rio Grand overload anything but the fastest rods IMHO. I never was a Cortland fan...too much memory but I haven't tried a 555 or Sylk.

Curious? We all have opinions but what criteria are you using to judge your opinion on which line you like the best: Finish, line profile (front taper, rear taper, belly), durability, line maintain, etc. Just curious

All of my dry lines are Cortand 444SL. Enough memory, but not too much. It is not that expensive, easy to clean and can get beat up.

I just bought an AirFlo Ridge Line from River City and was amazed at the way it cast! The line has tiny ridges which decreases friction while passing through the guides.

Another Rio fan here. For sinking line I like S.A uniform however.

I recently tried a Jim Teeny ghost tip line and really like the way it casts. It's my new favorite. It's basically a long belly weight forward that roll casts very well and shoots like a rocket.

I started using Cortland then found the Orvis Wonderline cast better for me.
