Howdy,
Last month I was fishing the Lyre R. on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington for Summer-run Steelhead. I had snuck up on three fish in a small pool, while they weren't spooked by my offerings, they also wouldn't take them. I noticed a Huckleberry bush sprouting out of the stump I was crouching behind, seeing the bright orange/red berries I thought "why not" and impaled a couple on a size 4 egg hook. I cast them into the pool and sure enough I was into a fish. To my dismay the hook was in the large buck's dorsal. I grabbed my main-line and snapped off the leader in order to prevent a no-win struggle.
Last week I returned to the pool. To my amazement the fish was in the finishing stages of lashing together what appeared to be a small raft. Born with an inquiring mind, I asked "What are you Doing?" He say's "Listen pal, if everyone all of a sudden started calling you "Tom Sawyer" you'd probably want to float down-river with me"
