Howdy SC. I might help with your Q & A if you enlightened those of us not familiar with the Puget Sound area numbering system. Where is 8-1. Thanks much. - RT

Area 8-1 is inside of Whidbey Island and Skagit Bay. Check out Bob Ball's site at www.piscatorialpursuits.com. (http://www.piscatorialpursuits.com.) Go mariners!

Hey Salmon catcher, R.T. is going to laugh at this response, but I lived on the beach at Fox spit, which is also called east pt.in the regs, but when you live on the island it is called fox spit. Which is the south east boundry to 8-1, when I lived there we blackmouth fished religously when I wasn't drunk or high, (I was a logging contractor back then) We slayed the **** out of them. The best place to fish is on the northwest side of foxspit on the incoming tide between the spit and baby island, you need downriggers and you want to fish right on the deck in 100 to 140 ft. of water with a green or red glow hotspot flasher and a glow white hoochie, glow white w/chartruse spots, or dog sh** colored hoochie, also the white with chartruse splatter works as well. Or put a glow white and chartruse coyote spoon on behind it also works well. Or you can fish on the east side of holmes harbor the same way from the entrance to about 1 mile south is real good and also up by greenbank, just north of holmes harbor is good to, you want good tides to move the bait and fish around. I hope this helps, we caght hundreds of blackmouth there over the years I lived and partied there. Good luck and it is an often overlooked fishery. Peace Superfly
