First Bite

I got down to a favorite stretch of water on the lower Wilson at daybreak to find three guys already there drifting bait. I was set up for bobber and jig fishing so I went to the head of the drift. Within minutes I hooked but lost a fish on my pink jig/shrimp combo. Not wanting to mix drift fishing with bobbers, I decided to drive to the Tillamook Bait Co. and buy some of their shrimp scent. I had stopped in there earlier in the morning but their bait machine was jammed. Dennis and Marie gladly got me a bottle of the juice and I headed back to my favorite stretch which was now wide open. With the water being low and clear, I started out with my jig and shrimp tail. It took about 15 minutes but I finally got one to take it. After a hard but brief battle I landed an average size Buck. I tagged the fish and then rigged up my other pole with some eggs from a buddy of mine. I finished it off with some of the TBC shrimp scent. I cast to the top of the drift and started retrieving my slack line. I had barely pulled in my line when the bobber disapeared. Fish on. Another brief battle and I landed fish No.2. It was a nice looking Buck around 20# so I decided to keep it. So was it the eggs or the TBC shrimp scent? Maybe a little of both.
Anyways There was very little pressure on the river today. Looks like rain for the weekend. Tight lines to all.
