This is an update from Advance Committee for Recommendations
Regarding the NW Tier’s Expo.

We, Jim Fisher Stan Steele and Dwight Klemin are the members of the committee to research the future of the NW Tier's Expo. Our task was to do a feasibility study to expand the Expo to a two- or three-day event that includes education and other aspects of fly-fishing. We were also asked to look at improving of facilities, which would increase the enjoyment of all involved. The FFF Board unanimously agreed that Expo has out grown the current Wheeler Pavilion and needs a more suitable facility.

Our investigation included three I-5 corridor facilities: Lane County Fairgrounds in Eugene, Oregon State Fair Grounds in Salem and the Linn County Fairgrounds in Albany.

In very brief terms our research produced the following recommendation:
Linn County Fairgrounds – Great Lighting, clean restrooms, E-Z access to I-5, low cost, close-by motels at a reduced rate, RV parking and four conference rooms

A Two-day event to include:
Three-hour sessions (tiers wants three hours sessions), varied educational seminars, two indoor casting pools, one outside spey casting venue, theater for programs and vendor booths.

The recommended date for Event is the 2nd weekend in March. The 2nd weekend in March is available for the next 15 years. This date does not conflict with other fly-fishing events in Oregon, Washington, Idaho or Northern California.

Tiers and tier’s camaraderie Remain the MAIN FOCUS. Educational seminars, casting venue and demonstrations provide farther insights and education for the total fly angler. The vendors (Manufactures, Distributors, and Retailers of fly fishing) support the show in a low-key manner with a focus on trying new gear, education and demonstrations. The vendors are the backbone of fly-fishing by providing gear, information and gathering places to infuse our fly-fishing growth.

Our recommendation is for this event not to be a barker’s paradise but rather a place to gather fly-fishing information.

The committee presented a Power Point Presentation at the April OCFFF board meeting. The PPT presented is available upon your request from dgklemin@msn.com. I can e-mail it as an attachment if you have PowerPoint.
The committee also recommended that the plan be only implement IF: Nine key chair positions are filled by May 3rd.

The board approved the plan with the May 6th deadline for total commitment by individuals to chair the various committees. The board also appointed Jim Fisher, Stan Steele, Dwight Klemin to continue the committee work and added Mary Ann Dozer to find Chairs.

1. Expo Chair 07’
2. Tiers 3. Facilities 4. Vendors 5. Promotion/Advertising
6. Banquet 7. Volunteers 8. Education 9. Auction/Raffle

The committee whole-heartedly supports the NW Tier’s Expo and the premise and foundation upon which Expo was built. Oregon has been a leader in the Federation of Flyfisher and wish to continue developing new ideas that the early founders inspired.

A tremendous amount of compiling, research and meetings formulated the final recommendation. The outcome was based upon “something had to be done with the inadequate facilities of Wheeler Pavilion”. We feel, as a committee, our recommendation is best solution because it continues the tradition of Fly Tier’s as the main event but will give the attendees the opportunity to learn additional aspects of fly-fishing. The Albany location provides great lighting, more space, E-Z access, better banquet facilities and Linn County Officials wants the Expo at their Fairgrounds.
