I am interested in any info. into flies, techniques, time of year, and area of the river concerning sea-run cutthroats on tillamook bay tributeries specifically the Wilson above cedar butte bridge if anyone has any knowledge they are willing to share thanks
The season for coastal cutthroat trout begins 5/27 and runs through 10/31.
All coastal tribs have both sea run and resident populations.
I fish a floating line with this fly fished in the typical downstream swing. I've never found a need to use a sink tip fly line, weighted fly, or a multiple fly setup for these trout with the occasional exception of a bead variation of the pictured pattern.
I typically stay in the lower reaches of the streams I fish (Wilson,Trask,Nestucca,Nehalem,Kilchis and Necanicum) and have had good success in both the early season and later in the fall. Please debarb your hook when fishing in these streams because later on in the summer there will be a lot of pre-migrant salmon and steelhead smolt present.
Hope this helps

:yeahthat: or a black and tan elk hair caddis for a dry or a bead head prince nymph, I have had lots of success with them, as well as the reverse spyder. Don't forget the Nestuca, there is usually a good run there as well. As Stew said " Please de-barb your hook" and remember, catch and release.

I have to say, I can't wait to get back out after these little beauties.
I have only used the Reverse Spider and have had great success.
Once you start catching Sea Run Cutts, you may not want to catch anything else.

I can't wait either. I look forward to the days when the oceans too rough to take the Dory out. Stew I remember you posting about a Trask tidewater drift last year. I would love to learn more about that. Can't wait to try out the reverse spider. My son and I stopped by River City a couple of months ago and the guys really helped us out with learning to tie them and the materials. We have about 5 different variations tied up so far. Echo the barbless hooks.
