anybody fish the deschutes today?

I was out there this weekend. My original plan was to fish WS to TC for the opener, but the high water made me alter my plans. I was afraid of not being able to find good places to fish up at Warm Springs with the combination of high water and heavy crowds so I opted for Maupin instead. Fishing pressure around Maupin was moderate, but probably not nearly what it was like up at Mecca :help: As most of you know, the river is high right now, but it is very fishable. The catching was good. It took me a while to get into the "zone" for redsides, but I put the hurt on the whities until I was able to get more dialed in for the redsides. There was a decent hatch of BWOs in the afternoon, but for the most part the trout were ignoring them on the surface. All of my action came on nymphs, egg patterns, and San Juans. I wouldn't catagorize the trout fishing as spectacular, but it was better than I expected.

The water is still very cold. I didn't take a temperature reading, but it sure is cold. Also, please be careful with smolts. I caught a boatload full of them so remember to use barbless hooks and release them gently. We want them to come back in 2 years and make our reels sing!! :cool:

Fished it Saturday WS to TC. Pressure was low. There were a ton of people camped at Mecca. Fishing was good compared to what I thought it would be. Three guys all caught plenty of fish. Nothing really big landed. Caught a lot of fish on SJ's and Pat's Stone.

Can't wait for memorial weekend.

they opened the canals in bend on friday so conditions should improve

We did not fish it but drove over the river at Warmsprings and the water was high but did not look bad made me wanna stop and give it a try. rp
