I took my nephew down to the McKenzie for his first trout fishing trip. We were on the river from about 11-2, and managed about 25 fish between us. Most were holdover hatchery fish, but there were some between 12-14 inches.
Despite the fact that the black caddis were hatching everywhere, there wasn't much activity on the surface. I only took one fish on a dry. Strangely, they wouldn't take the rubber legged prince I took over 10 fish on on Sunday. Today the only game in town was a March Brown flymph fished behind a size 12 black caddis.
