Hi All,

1999 Mercury 9.9 4 stroke manual start (Yamaha power head).

Anyone know the current I should see off this motor? I have it hooked up my house battery (have two battery setup with battery switch) to keep it happy wilst running my electronics. At idle I was seeing roughly 700 mA to 1 A. The battery was fully charged, and no only the TR-1 was running. When I revved it up a little (2500 RPM) I would see 2 A. The manual says it is a 6 A alternator...this seem right?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I have a 2000 15HP, and recall the output to be 6A. Should be the same for 9.9.

Most kickers put out very low current-- less than 1A-- while at trolling speeds. They'll put out their rated amperage only at full RPMs. There are a few exceptions so I have no idea what your motor is supposed to put out. I know that my 1996 Honda 8hp wasn't much use for battery charging but my 2003 T-8 Yamaha puts out more current than all my accessories can draw.

If the regulator is working right it will only put out it's full rating when it's higher than idle speed and under a big load, i.e. a partially charged batttery or running a bunch of lights.
