Before my shakedown trip in my new-to-me barge, I need to change the oil. The motor is a high performance 350. Is there a speical marine grade oil I should use? What viscosity should I consider? Should I consider synthetic? I want to put the best in and use the right application.

thanks,

CrF

I`m kind of an oil guru, I have been an avid lubrication freak for about 35 years.

You will get great performance out of a diesel rated oil, Dello 400 15W-40 or for a synthetic use shell Rotella.

Great Marine quality oils and have lots of additives for your flat tappet cam if that`s what you are running.

Replied to other post. If you don't go synthetic, then the suggestion to buy a heavy-duty oil like delo is a good one.

For your OMC, you will want to read this, and check/replace your shift cable if needed - http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/ .
