New to the motor market and I have a 17x54 willie i'd like to get setup with a Rip Tide model Minn Kota electric motor.
Which model and how much thrust will work best?
Using it for side drifting, and lake fishing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Martin.
Most people are going 24V or 36V. I went 36V on my 16 x 54. 36V has more power to go upriver, but if you are only using it to control direction, even a 12V would probably be fine. The other benefit to 36V is longer battery life. The downside is battery weight. Batteries weigh around 50-60lbs a piece for Group 24s. You could go group 22s, but they have quire a bit less Reserve amps.

Get the 36 v 101, and never worry about not having enough power or battery life. ( i have on in my 16 footer and i go wherever i want)
