View Full Version : Transducer Mounting Troubles

Am I the only one that can't get transom-mounted transducers to work right? I've used Lowrance and Humminbird fishfinders on my old boat, and now a Furuno on my new boat. With all three, I never got clear depth readings above about 8 mph. At high speed, the signal disappears or get squirrely.

I have followed installation directions, and aligned the bottom of the transducer face with the bottom of the boat. My new boat is a flat-bottom dory, which is a pretty simple bottom.

Am I the only one? Does anybody know how to fix the problem?

Try tilting the rear end of the transducer downward very slightly. Also you can try lowering the whole transducer downward a sixteenth of an inch at a time.

If the face of the transducer is even with the bottom of the boat, that's the problem. The transducer should be below the bottom of the boat, and it shouldn't be in line with any strakes or rivets or anything on the bottom of the boat that would cause turbulance. On my Lowrance it says the centerline on the transducer should be even with the boat bottom. Just be sure the kick-up feature is adjusted properly so you don't end up damaging your transducer (or bracket) WHEN you hit something, notice I didn't say IF!

The previous two replies are spot on!

Get that little baby a bit lower than your hull and tilted slightly forward.

Good luck
