As with many rivers right now the lower Siletz tidewater has a lot of fish in but is too warm for a decent salmon bite. I fished it from 7 to 2 today with good guy guide Joe Studier (Salmonator), between Coyote Rock to just above Chinook bend. We saw 2 on all day and that was just right after first light (that's all that wound up in the ramp fish count by 2:00). Scores of boats. Everyone was scratching around for a bite there today, including some other top guides. Lots of fish rolling in what was reported to be 65 degree water. Obviously, we need rain &/or colder nights to bring the temp down into the 50's for a good bite to occur - for salmon anyway. At Windy Bend, and a few other places, Joe put on quite a show of bullhead "mudcat" fishing. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif Taught me how to catch these fish too. Really fun! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I did have a good time visiting with Joe and revisiting the Siletz tidewater. Bring on the rain - right after the Ifish BBQ. - RT
