I'm taking delivery of a new boat next week. I had originally requested group 27 batteries. In talking to the factory this week they are telling me that they wont fit, group 24's wont fit either. Plan now is for Odyssey 1200 series batteries. In looking at the specs compared to others, its tough to compare. One comparison sheet claims more usable reserve than group 27 but less overall reserve.
I will be running fish finder, radar, VHF, & a TR-1. Kicker has a charging harness & my exp with my last boat was that the charging harness will keep up w/ the TR-1 draw. Are any of you running these batteries & how are they working out?

Streetwalker,

I have had one for three years in a Willie Predator 200 Sportjet and have had zero problems. I only run a single battery for starting the main and kicker. Other than that it powers the GPS/sounder, blower and bilge pump from time to time. I am surprised at how much starting power they put out for such a small size. They have a five second high output for cranking which seems to get the job done for me. I would buy another. Their web site is very helpful and offers inforamtion about local dealers in addition to specs.

I would think the Odyssey should work fine, BUT... I've never heard of a boat that won't fit either a Group 24 or a Group 27 size battery? Unless you're talking about a REALLY small boat, something is fishy there.

25' Seahawk, the trays have been redesigned & are fairly small. I think they run dry cells on all their boats now.

I've got two Oddyssey's in my 22ft MM. VHF, FF/GPS, CD, Downrigger, Flood & Search lights. Volt meter reading on the FF/GPS unit looks good when trolling under a full load. Haven't had any problems and quickly fires up the 225hp. They are great batteries in a small form factor. Would still suggest you mount a charger to top off before trips. :twocents:

My employer had a 21' NR Scout built last year and the Odysseys were an option. We got them because the boat is a center console and they don't take up much room under it. It has 2, but one will crank over the 200 Yamaha without even breaking a sweat.

Same here - Have a 2006 20" NR scout with a short transom tray. not enough room for anything else but works great for both motors and accessories

I had my Motion equipped with two of them. They are the bomb. Plenty of juice to start a 200 Optimax sportjet and run all my other bells and whistles while fishing (cranking the kicker, running depth finder, bilge, anchor and running lites and a hand held VHF. I have never had a problem with these batteries. In fact, My boat sat for over three months this winter without being started. When I finally got a chance to get it on the water they fired right up. I asked Motion if I should keep them on a trickle charge during cold weather but they said not to worry about it. They have had them sit through an entire winter and still fire a big motor right up.

That the beauty of any AGM battery not just the Optima. An AGM battery holds a charge way longer than a flooded cell type.
