Back to Frenchmans Bar area after work today, fished from 4-7pm and picked up one 20# chromer. Not so big but beautiful. We were rigged with the usual Alvin setup. The take was on an un-tuned silver Alvin w/green tape. Disapointingly, we marked far, far fewer fish than this past weekend.

A guy who fished in a group of four boats reported no takes for any of them today.

So is it about over for this stretch of the Columbia? What do you experienced hands say?
Anyone have a cut-off date for this fishery?

garyk, I will be out tomorrow in my usual spot.....The numbers are around 3000 or so for Chinook including Jacks as of yesterday, We have been marking fish either right after light or at the tide change....We had three fish on Friday and landed two but the funny thing was that we marked no fish when the action was going on. I think when the numbers are at what they are you can still catch them.....don't give up !

Thanks for your post MrDorkFish. That's an interesting observation about when you're marking fish.

I'll be curious to hear how you do tomarrow.

We're leaning towards fishing one day on the weekend and then Monday.

It sounds like you fish that area a bit - do you have any opinion on tape colors on the Alvins?

Garyk: Mind sharing your set up and how deep of water you are fishing. Would like to fish if wind is not too bad tomorrow. Also, what line are you in. Near the channel to Van lake or ??

Thanks, Giz...

garyk, I'm using the imitation alvin....the brad, which are painted the colors we like.....my buddy hooked all the fish a week or so ago on a brad that was slashed half green and on Friday we hooked up three times on my brad that had a blue bottom. The brad is exactly like the the alvin but it only has one dot when crossing the A. We have been putting on 3/0 trebles but the blue ones i bought the other day had trebles on them already but i think they were smaller so i changed them. GI Joes has these brad thingys.....

Good luck,

garyk,
Been out of town the last two days. You asked about the tape I used on the silver wobblers in the other post. I have had sucesss using elipse shaped blue "prismatic" dots I found at FMS. I put one dot on the bottom near the hook and a dot on each outside edge. I've seen the half silver/blue alvins work real well too.

I suspect we only have a couple of weeks left. Damn counts are slowing down.

Gizmo,

YOu may already be on the water, but if not.
We're setting up downstream of where most folks are. For a landmark, there's a restroom building in the park, on the WA. Maybe 200-yards upstream from that point. (Also upstream of the freighter that has "Oriente" in its name) Anchored in about 48'-50' of water. We followed the recomended 50" leader, 60" lead-line and 8oz. of weight.

garyK.....I lost my partner to the boat next to me today but it seems i got another good luck person in return, The day started out with an early take down and Ron landed a real nice fish, my pole went down later and we lost that one before we could drop out....my pole went down another time and i handed it over to my good luck charm, Very nice fish ! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif Oakiedrifter in the boat next to me within the next hour landed two more. I think it's too early to stop fishing....I think these pictures will be posted later today,

All rightttttt! Mr. Dorkfish. Certainly good news. I'm confused though. You mentioned earlier you'd be fishing Frenchmans Bar area. But the posted pics say they're from Chinook Landing. Also, any pattern to what they were liking today?

I expect to be back on Sat. for a morning session and a portion of Sun. too.

Ooops ! I said my usual spot....i am sorry garyk, I always fish out of Chinook Landing, the fish liked three different lure colors on Thursday, Chrome with a chartruse bottom, Chrome with a green slash on each side and chrome with a blue slash on each side. Hope you do well this weekened.
