This morning I took my 3 year old daughter to St. Louis Ponds near Woodburn to fish for bluegill. We got out of the truck, and I was rigging up the fishing poles, when the ODFW truck pulled up right next to us and dumped a bunch of hungry trout in the water. I thought that was rather strange, as the water is 70 degrees. After the initial temper tantrum when a fish didn't bite the exact moment her line hit the water, we caught 8 trout in 45 minutes, lost several others, casting a small silver spoon. Anyone with small children this weekend, I'd recommend St. Louis ponds. I doubt the trout will survive long in there if the weather stays like it is. They must have an awful lot of surplus trout to be putting them in there this time of year, but I'm not complaining. My daughter got to catch fish while her brothers were in school. It was almost like stopping off at the grocery store!

I have had that happen to me a couple of times bass fishing back in Bama, but the best one was on Offut Lake. They had just opened up their trout pen a couple of hours before my dad and I had shown up. We caught 55 rainbows in a 4 hour time period. The ospreys were having a field day that day. All I did was watch where the osprey were diving in the water, and then I would steer the boat right in the middle of them. Slow trolled wedding rings with a piece of worm. Catch and release of course. I don't particularly care for the taste of fish, except a few species, even then, I have to be the one operating the grill.

They probably did that for bass food. Hmmmmm I have seen them do this before. Seems a waste at that water temp.
