View Full Version : Keep an eye on the Wilson River Hwy

While we are traveling the Wilson River Hwy, everyone keep an eye out for a group breaking into cars (mostley fisherman and bowhunters). There has been an epidemic of breakins where while your fishing, some jerks pull up to your car, jump out and shatter your window, then grab whatever is in-sight. The State Police are scarce, so if anyone gets a license number, help them out and call it in. It's hard enough to find the fish without trying to keep your rig in sight! Tight Lines

Thanks for alerting everyone.

I can confirm as well that this year there has been a disturbing amount of broken window glass at the hiking trailheads along the Hwy.6 too - so hikers are getting their cars clobbered too.

In problem areas like this, I've always thought some discreet surveillance cameras in the trees would put a quick stop to this -- it might have to be a project that recreationists fund. Everyone pitch together to get a couple cameras for each county where car break-ins are a big problem. Let the sheriffs department deploy and utilize them and make the cases for the county DA to prosecute. Just an idea I've had for a long time.

I can't believe the man would exert much effort to stop this problem. After all these lowlifes have no property or money that can be confiscated and turned into overtime pay or undercover jetsleds for the police.

A few days of hiding in the bushes with a baseball bat and a blanket would be much more effective. Don't forget your skimask. It wouldn't do to get arrested for assault while defending your property!

A quick trip to the perp's house would then liberate all of the stolen goods. Trouble is how would you know who to give it back to?

Oh well, it's nice to fantasize. I did alot of thinking about all of this when my Dad's rod and Penn 4/0 got stolen out of my boat while I used the can at Coverts landing. The sheriff at least called me back and took a report. However he was not optimistic about recovery or catching the jerkoff who stole the stuff.

If you catch this guy, beat the crap out of em for me and duct tape em to a tree before you anonymously call the man. Don't forget to hang a 'Thief' sign on em after you strip and duct tape em.

I had my car broken in to on the Sandy a few years back. My retribution fantasy was that I would camo myself and get a blowgun with difficult-to-remove darts dipped in habanero oil.

A dart in the ass from an unknown assailant would feel sooooo good. For me at least.

These attacks are happening most likely on weekends where there is a maximum number of vehicles to hit. A couple popular spots staked out might be fruitful for someone who wants to catch these a-holes.

The sherriff I spoke to back in June said the bad guys were camped in the Gorge and did this every year. Gypsies, homeless or whatever. It sounded like he knew all about where they were and what they were about. But he wouldn't tell me who or where. I guess he could sense anger.

Could these thieves on the Wilson R. be doing the same thing? Are there any 'permanent' camps worth watching? I'll buy whoever finds out an adult beverage or two of their choice. Let's rid our playground of these rotten apples before they spoil anyone elses fun times.

Pilar, You're 4:36 post is exactly on the mark. I didn't want to say that 'cause I thought some folks would come un-glued, but that is my observation of Portland area police depts.

After having my car opened a couple times on the Mt. Hood Forest, my fantasy is -- as I leave my car I set a strong double spring trap, short-chained under the seat,(you can't open a double-spring single handed). Maybe leave some change sprinkled on the floor in front of the seat to encourage 'em to reach under the seat and THEN.......

Well Garyk they can't arrest you for talking about it. And lets face it folks, most of the inmates in jail are drug criminals or duii graduates. A thief is always ticketed and released to reoffend.

Speaking about bear traps reminds me of a story I heard in BC on a kiln start-up........

This ain't no *****!

Back in the gold pannin days a miner goes into town for his annual visit. He cashes in his poke at the assay and heads over to the barber for a shave and a long overdue bath. The barber directs him to the veterinary/dentist for some dental work.

The old trapper steps into the office and sits in the chair.

The vet asks him 'Ya been to the saloon for a snootful yet?'
since that was the custom in the day before anesthesia.

The miner says "Why would I need a drink?"

and the vet says 'cause this tooth pullin hurts like hell and you yellin will spook my other customers'

The miner replies " I only felt pain once in my life"

The vet says 'well sir you got an abcessed tooth and its got to come out' He grabs the fence pliers and wiggles the tooth a little.
The vet says 'How's that?'

The miner replies " I only felt pain once in my life"

The vet says 'Ok here goes' and jerks the tooth. The old miner just sits there not turnin a hair and not a bead of sweat on him.
The vet says 'Jeezum crow mister, theres two more bad teeth and I'll just pull them too!' and he does. The miner sits in the chair not sayin a word and now bleedin a little.

The vet is dumbstruck by the miners courage and asks him 'If you only felt pain just once in your life, I gotta know more about that cause your one stony sumbitch!'

The miner replies "Well one day I was in the woods and had to take a dump. I went into the brush, pulled down my longhandles and sat right in a bear trap"

The vet cried 'Oh man, now I understand, is that when you felt the pain?'

The miner blinked a few times and said "Nosir it was a few seconds later when I hit the end of the chain"

This is no news to me I had my truck stolen at Donaldson boat ramp just over a year ago. All I have to say is that they were nice enough to beat the lock off my drift boat trailer and leave that so I had away to get it home. As for getting a license plate number on them they just might get a little more then that ill just make sure to wipe my finger prints off my arrow first. Just kidding or maybe not.

It's not just cars. I was talking to a state game trooper this morning who told me that lots of crab pots have been stolen between Buoys 20 and 22 on the Columbia estuary this year. It used to be that you could drop your pots and go salmon fishing but I guess that is no longer the case.

This ****** me off.

Lets hire someone (big) who is laid off right now to do some security. There must be some "prime" area(s) and prime times that could be watched.

I will contribute 20 bucks to get this started if anyone is willing to pick up the ball and administer this. 8 - 10 bucks an hour to sit in the bushes isn't bad wages.

IF this continues there will be lots of sad fisherman this fall. Anyone with me....?

Steve

Looks like yet another citizen was victimized by the car break in dudes. Just bringing this back up to the top for the latest crime statistic, Fishin Magician, to read.

Can you say 'blanket party'?

I like your idea about A blanket party but I was brought up to think that the guilty should be able to be seen by there peers so no blanket just those nice army spades.Thats the only thing that they are good for. RKB
