There seems to be a battle brewing about banning the use of bait on the Rogue fom Graves Creek to Watson Creek. Can anyone bring me up to speed on this issue? Thanx.

I snipped the following from the ODFW web site. The public hearings are finished, but staff recommended rejecting the change ... (that's what the "R" stands for)

KEY ISSUE
Modified
p.30 Rogue River:
· Change bait regulation Graves Creek to Foster Bar or Watson Creek
from: the "1 and 4" rule to: bait allowed if using 1-inch or larger
gapped hooks or ban bait in Sept and Oct.
Rationale: Conserves dwindling half-pounder run. There is still a lot of native mortality
from bait fishing; new criteria: protect tourism dollars. (Helfrich)
Staff Summary: Hooks larger than one inch are illegal. A bait ban would be
difficult to enforce in this remote area. Most, but not all guides are opposed. See staff
summary in proposal 075P.
