A friend of mine who has never gone fishing before wants me to take him salmon fishing before he moves to Florida next week any suggestions on where I should take him so he will have the most fun and not get bored and where we will have the best chance of catching a fish?

That's as difficult to predict as the stock market. I don't know the tides this weekend but I think fishing the incoming thru high tide near the Nehalem or Tillamook bars with large plugcut herring would be a good prospect. Definitely less boring than a slwo day anchored in the Columbia, although there is still some occasional good days out there. There are really a lot of cohos everywhere this year; especially up the Col. tribs. Try float fishing eggs or casting spinners at the mouth of the Clackamas R., where they have been doing well but is crowded, or the lower Sandy, Lewis, or Cowlitz rivers for them. Watch for BB reports right before you go and call some local tackle shops for hype, I mean reports. Good luck. - RT
