I bought a Foodsaver couple years ago. It died on me last month, the sealer strip would not seal. Up until then it worked fine. I called up the company and they said if you are sealing something juicy, over time, if the juice gets on the sealer strip, it will short it out. They said if you are sealing something juicy, "pre-freeze" it before you seal it, or even put it in the package. I mostly seal fish and meat. They gave me 30% off on a new one, phone order. Just a tip.

The freezing method is a good one and works pretty well other than over the long haul (~1yr) meat will tend to start burning a little with the extra moisture and air pockets sealed in the bag. In any case the meat should not be in the freezer much over a year anyway. If it is you need to stop fishing or hunting so much or send your extra to me.

Another option if you don't want to wait to freeze, is to take and place a folded paper towel section over the end of the piece of meat. As the air is sucked out of the bad it will be absorbed into the paper towel and will not effect the sealing process.

Using a towel to suck the moisture out works well too, and doesn't take half as long.
