Big Decision

I am writing in request to a big decision we have coming up. To make a long story short, we have been asked by a Christian relief agency to head up a disaster relief and rebuilding effort in Guatemala and El Salvador due to the destruction wreaked by Hurricane Stan. They have asked us for a one-year committment.

We were with the same agency in Guatemala from '98 - '02, so we are very familiar with the region. Please pray for the following.

1. Insight for my wife and I as we make this decision.

2. That my school district would grant me a leave-of-absence if this is our decision.

3. Peace of mind for my oldest child. Although she loves Guatemala, she is now a teenager and I believe would find the coming and the going rather difficult. Friends are pretty important to a teenage girl, we are finding.

My brain goes so many directions when I consider the decision that you are faced with. I will pray that God would make it clear to you. My belief is that God would have us minister to our own family first then to others as needed. Only God and you know what is best for your family. Thanks for your prayers everyone. We spent a lot of time in prayer this weekend and in talking as a family. My oldest has come around and is ready to go if that is our decision! Now we just need to finalize that this is what we are being called to do, and get approval from my district for a leave of absence.
