Tillamook Anglers gear up for 'Kids' Day'

The 9th Annual Fishing Day for Kids with Disabilities is just around the corner and there will be 1,700 big rainbow trout on hand, donated by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW).
On Saturday, Sept. 16, beginning at 10 a.m., the annual event promises to draw a big crowd of youngsters, coming from all over the Northwest to have, what will be for many of them, their first fishing experience.
The Tillamook Anglers assemble a volunteer crew to help disabled youngsters have the experience of catching a fish, providing poles, assistance in the effort, bait, fish cleaning, ice and bags for the youngsters to take their fish home.
Buses from children’s hospitals and programs for disabled children participate yearly and the throngs are treated to chicken, hotdogs, ice cream, soft drinks, pizza, coffee and donuts, all donated by local businesses.
The event is held at the Whiskey Creek Volunteer Fish Hatchery at 7660 Whiskey Creek Road. Travelers should follow the signs to Cape Lookout State Park and watch for signs that say “FISH.”
The event is sponsored by the Tillamook Anglers, Salmon Hog Invitational and local merchants and service organizations. For further information, or to volunteer, contact Jerry Dove at 842-6519 or on the day of the event, 815-2555.
