Hi folks - this b.b. looks so good I had to sign up ! So ...

Lucky me, I'll be heading out towards Buoy 10 on Sunday. Now it looks like it will be last chance chinook day, so I know it will be way crazy out there. I won't panic ... and in my old 16' boat I stay well inside of "10"

MY QUESTION is how long the line is going to be at the ramp ? I usually like to go out of Hammond. Does anyone have a report on how many HOURS I might expect to wait ... high tide is a little before 1:00, I'd like to have the crab pots out and be fishing by around 10:00 or so.
So who's been there? Is Warrenton any better? I used to run a bigger boat out of there, but it was already in the water when I woke up ! Just a longer run out to the river, fuel may an issue.

I'll see you there - I'll leave the bumpers out for when we BUMP into each other ... make sure the HORN works. HEY watch where you're going! (I'm warmin' up !) http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Phish,
We were at Hammond boat launch saturday and sunday last week, low tides were in the late morning, which is when we launched. The line for launching was not very long. I'd say 10-15 min. max. However, most people may have launched earlier. This weekend with low tides early, the wait may be much longer.

Went out of hammond today and it wasn't too bad but to give you a perspective when the ocean was closing we were up there the last day and got to the area and found out the line started at Corkies and only got longer we were there at 5:30 today and there were oh my gosh sooo many boats out there. I can see why they are closing the Kings this weekend we had 3 in the boat by 8:30 and tried the rest of the day to put silvers in the boat to no avail left at 12:30. the largest on my boat was 18.5# my partners boat got a 31# also fish early on Wa side by the last big span 20 pulls creeping slowly against incoming tide.

Greetings from another recent convert to this BB.

Phish,

If you don't mind the ride, launching at the John Day boat ramp is usually not too traumatic. The time you spend in line at Hammond may balance out for the time to ride over to the north shore or wherever you choose. Two notes of caution: There are some extremely shallow areas between point A and point B (even for a jet pump). A chart of the area is helpful and I got mine at Englund Marine. Prepare to drop a few bones for it though. #2, if the wind comes up, and it gets bumpy and the ride back to the ramp takes a lot longer unless you can draft behind someone blazing the trail.

As far as bait, the norm is plug cut herring, but the others always have to potential to be the "hot one" that day. Stay versatile.

Good luck.
