Tomorrow is my 18th b-day, and me and a few friends are going fishing in the morning. I really want to get my first summer steelhead this year, and was wondering where i should go.... I will be bank fishing, and kinda wanna go flyfishing (but ill probably bring my spinning rod too). I was thinking either the trask (or other coastal rivers), mouth of the deschutes, or clackamas. I went to the trask last weekend and didnt see anything... The water was really low and clear, but i didnt see any other fishermen. Does the mouth of the deschutes get very crowded on week days?!!??!
I would really appreciate any tips or advice. Im lookin to stay within 2 or 3 hours of portland.

Happy B-day Evan. The coastal rivers are so low, clear, and relatively warm they are a challenge to get fish to bite. Not so with the Deschutes. You guys can either walk or ride bikes up the east side and fish the lower few miles of river. I haven't sought out a report for the mouth of the Clackamas lately, but I would call F.M.S. at 557-3313 for an update about the arrival of many Clack. and Sandy R. silvers to come in this year. Let us know how it goes. Good luck, RT
