Nehalem

Well,
I just got the report from a few fishin buds over on the Nehalem.....and it is poor. No fish caught. A lot of fish rolling, but no boatings. The jetty was rough, so all of the boats were inside. Wheeler fish guy says 1 fish caught, but nobody else I talked to saw anything. I was going to run over there today, but I think I'll rest for now. Hopefully it'll get better this week. They had some rain Friday, so maybe it'll improve by Sun. I hope so. Although, I may go anyway.
After all, I'd rather be lucky than good.

HI: The wife and I were there on Thurs. My guide friend said he hooked one on Thurs. I saw one being netted about 1:30pm right out from the ramp at Wheeler.

We spent our time crabbing near the State ramp. Got 8 keepers.

The water is warm and the grass is in there.

Fished the jaws of the Nehalem today (8/20). Saw 4 nookies boated in 25 minutes fishing in the rollers in a fast tide about 2 1/2 hours into the incoming. I was fishless, but a nice day to be out.

Fished in front of Nehalem on Sat. and Sun morning. Saw three fish taken on Sat. and five or six taken on Sun. This is for approx. fourty boats of fishing pressure. Fish were rolling everywhere and water was like a bathtub. Motored up to Barn Hole and saw some fish rolling, but no one had hooked anything. I camped up by the falls and there are some fish rolling way up there too.

Very frustrating.

Ok, I sure hope that the Nehalem fishery gets a LITTLE better this week. Rumor says 8-12 Chinook on Sun. LOTS of BOATS. Beware of Morons with boats. Plenty of them out there.

I fished the Wheeler area on Friday 8/18. Had a great day on the water as far as the boat ride - Saw only one fish caught. In talking with that lucky fisherman, they also landed a jack within the first few minutes of fishing around 10:00AM.

Fished Nehalem today (8/21), Ran my first trip for the Fall season, my client missed the first one by jumping the gun on the hookset http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif. Then we got a nice 30# hen and later a 15# buck http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif. All in all not a bad start to the season. Hi! Back..... What a beautimous day! No fish, but thats OK, I didn't see any others caught either. Way to go Gone Fishin! I'm so glad you got in there and proved they can be caught! Takes a pro!
I didn't want to go out in the rollers today... needed the calm quiet of the bay.. It was lovely, but I sure thought I would catch one... I did fish positive!
Next time.. I'll get um!

I am going to fish positive, thus I will catch fish! YOU WAIT! I can't wait, on the other hand!
Anyway, there are fish everywhere jumping, why won't they bite? Cuz there are not enough females out on the river!
