Anyone do much chinook fishing around Kelly Point? Over the last couple of years I've gone to Chinook Landing, and to be quite honest, I cant stand that ramp. There are too many "pleasure boater's" for my liking. Why it takes so long to launch and recover is beyond me. I can do both in less than 2 min!

I should add I'm still trying to figure out the fall fishery. I'm just wondering if you can get away from the crowds a bit and still catch fish. Thanks in advance.

Water dog, one of my buds just killed them there last fall. Does Frenchmans Bar sound familiar? 1/2 brass & 1/2 chrome Alvin with a color spot, 5' dropper, 5' leader as light as you can stand it. Anchor in 40 to 50' of water and fish the out tide. They did best at the peak ebb flow all through September. Look for the canal to Vancouver Lake and fish off the end of it at the right depth.

GPS
Lat. N 45 40.428' W122 46.238'

This is in the freighter anchorage, so use some common sense. Anywhere on the bend of the river on the Wa. shore in 40 to 50' of water rocks. By the way where the hell can I get a 1/2 brass, 1/2 chrome Alvin? I'm on my last one. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif None of the stores around stumptown have em. Unless you want a Clancy wobbler you're out of luck.
Can't blame you for shying from the Sandy/Chinook boat launch/Government Island nightmare. Who are all those jetskis and party boats anyway? Don't they know I'm fishing over here? Quieter down river a ways and better fishing too! The bend is your friend!

Pilar, Thanks for the info!! Gee and you gave me the GPS coords too. Guess I'll see you there some time. I too only have one of those alvins.

I fish the Kelly point area a lot in the winter for sturgeon so I know what your talking about when it comes to anchoring up there.

Anyone else with some expert advice?

Update on Frenchman's bar. Sun. 8/20/00 17:00
Went there late, but just in time for the end of the ebb tide. Saw 3 or 4 hooked when I first anchored up, 3 boated. Current died about 19:00 and everyone left. The one fish caught right near me was dark but nice size 25#. Lots of boats!! I think the fishing will only get better, at least until they close it.
Hey RKB! Great jetski repellent you sent me. I prefer the M2A2 mounted on the bow, even though its kinda heavy and the spent brass makes a mess. The bend is your friend!
