We are going to try this, first. ALL open seats, post here!
I'm going to pin this and leave it.
We'll see how this works. If it doesn't, then I'll think about a new forum.

Nope, nobody to take me fishing yet. I agree with FisherJack, this isn't working!
Heh.
As someone who's posted a bunch of open seats, let me make some suggestions.
For people offering open seats:
Keep in mind that it takes time for people to adjust their schedule and gear up for an open seat. If you want to be sure to fill it, give folks at least a few days lead time. It isn't always easy to get the ducks lined up for an open seat. And when someone responds, give them very specific details about what they need to bring and where and when to meet you.
For people accepting open seats:
Be on time and be definite about where and when you are to meet. Early is good! Bring something to show your appreciation (fritters are good!) and offer to help with bait and gas expenses. It can cost a hundred bucks to spend a day on the water, by the time you figure in the boat payment and gas. If the offeror doesn't want to accept a contribution, they'll say so. But it's often appreciated.

You've got the jist of it  Also, i'd like to add this. I've posted open seats in my truck because I was going to bank fish a certain river (be it plunking, drift fishing, bobber n jig, etc), and have had IFISHERS take me upon my offers and ride with me to bank fish. Of course, I specified that I didn't have a boat at the time, and that we would be fishing from the bank, and they still went, and we had a great time. So, I don't think this is for people with boats only...it can work with bankees too!

It would be great if the dogs posted a couple open seats here, but I think we should have two, if they want one, too.
We can put one there, and one here!
I'll wait to hear to see if we want one over there, though. It's not nearly as busy, so their open seats tend to work if they aren't pinned. It's just so darned busy, here!

Jennie...I am new to your site, and I was wondering...these open seats are no doubt for some form of derby, or something. I am interested in doing this sometime, but fairly new at it. And I noticed that everybody seems to know which derby we're all talking about, cuz nobody mentions it by name or location. If something like this is coming up in the future that can be done on a fri/sat, please let me know about it. Thanks!
Bluesman, it's not a derby. People are being generous and sharing seats because they are interested in making new friends and sharing their boats with other Ifishers. It's just an individual thing.

Yo Jennie,
I did this two years ago when I rented an RV site in Goble (Where the hell is Goble? This is Goble---> www.gobletavern.com (http://www.gobletavern.com) )
and a slip at the Goble RV Park and Boat Ramp for the month of September. I was surprised how many guys signed on to go...It actually became quite a project in a way. BUT, it was worth it. I spent 17 days of actual fishing "offshore" from Kalama Boat Basin and average 1-3 fish per trip! I met wonderful people, some of whom I still keep in touch with and fish with occasionally! All my guys brought a cooler full of good grub and liquids and I only originally told them to bring some vittles. They almost ALWAYS handed me a $10 or usually a $20 bill at the end of the day, which helped a lot! I spent a ton more on the RV site and the mooring, but I was going to do that anyway.
What is important has already been said about FILLING an "Open Seater." And that is:
Guys who go...We "Open Seaters" love a GOOD lunch, drinks and snacks, and a few bucks for gas is a GREAT BONUS! We usually expect you to be courteous and usually NO DRINKING, PERIOD!
I really don't care if a couple of beers (Really only about TWO) are consumed if you're going to be anchoring, but when the fish is on, you cannot be even slightly "intoxicated." Once you cut loose of the anchor and you fire up the motor, you're once again a "Motorized Vehicle!" An officer in Kalama told me they watch from shore and radio their boat guys when they see someone anchored and fishing and drinking! When they cut loose for the Salmon, they radio to their power squadron units and usually issue BUI's (Boating Under The Influence) just like in a car! I had a guy on a trip who brought a 5th of whiskey...I didn't tell him not to originally. He brought an 18 pack of Diet Pepsi...Then he would open a Pepsi, drink it down a couple of inches, and pour the whiskey into the can...He did this about every 20-30 minutes until he was slurring his words after about the 4th one. I said NO MORE! He got a bit testy about it, so after fishing for a total of two hours, or so, I headed back to the dock. Our day was over. Never heard or seen him since! I went back out and nailed TWO!!
BE EARLY! If you're suppose to leave the dock at 5:30am, be there at 5...I had a couple of guys who showed up 1/2 hour to 45 minutes later than agreed and I almost took some other fellows who were at the docks instead. I'm ready so you be ready too! I usually tell my riders to be there about 15 minutes earlier than they really need to be. It works out well for all.
Other than that the rules are simple...I stated specific dates I would be out there, times to leave the dock and had a "First Come, First Served" agenda. Juggling the schedules got a bit intense so that is why it is important to be prompt.
If you're doing this "Onesie Twosies" then it's simple and easy.
I would do it again though, and will, but I'm in the process of moving to Coos County (Actually Lakeside, OR...Two blocks from the boat ramp at Tenmile Lake!!)in a month or two. Once I get settled there, I'm going to do the "Open Seat" thing again...I've downsized to a little ol' 16 foot JetCraft though, so the luxury and comfort of my 21' Duckworth (Sapphire)is over...But, I'm thinking I'll get some "Open Seaters" anyway! Lot's of rivers to troll aroun there!
I should be settled in by the Fall fisherie on the Central Oregon Coast...There are a lot of places to fish for Chinookies in the Fall down around them parts!
Hopefully, I can meet some of the locals and maybe trade a trip or two in their BIG 25-35 footers to go hunt the mighty Tuna, or bottom fish or ??? in the Might Pacific!?
This will be my new 16' JetCraft "Open Seater" (Below) that I will be using...

Wondering if anyone is interested in a sturgeon/salmon trip tomorrow. I have a new 19' Alumaweld that needs to be fished. I have room for 2 or 3 people if anyone is interested. I have not made a for sure decision where I am going to put in at, but I am open for suggestions. I am fully rigged, with canvas, heaters and cooler. Either way I plan to fish tomorrow....somewhere for something. Looking forward to meeting new people and learning something new.
You can pm me or respond to this post, I am flexible as to time and place. I don't think fish wear a watch, so they don't care how early or late we hit the water.

I have 1 seat available for tomorrow, sorry about the late notice, but due to a cancellation I have an opening. I plan to be at Cathederal Park at 0630 tomorrow and plan to return to the ramp between 1630-1700 if anyone is interested at this late date and time. I plan to troll for salmon for the first part of the day and if it is unproductive, we will shift gears and fish for sturgeon. I will be up for the next couple of hours or so. PM me and let me know if you are interested.

Hey guys, I am look for an open seat this weekend if any oneone has one avalible. I live in se portland and would love to learn some things about salmon fishing from a boat and learn some things about the big rivers. I have some gear and gas money. I have very good boating skills, lauching, pulling and anchoring. When you guys post places your are launching from I don't know where they are and if it is even around me. Send a pm if anyone would be willing to take me out. I have a vehicle so getting around is no big deal. I will also be watching this thread closely. Cool. Thanks

Seats ahoy matey. I would love to help with the expenses and cleaning of the boat (I do not do windows) in exchange for a seat. I am mature guy that has the abliity to be queit as well as converse in an intellegent conversation. I have a flexible schedule so I can get away on short notice. Monday afternoons are comitted to teaching a pottery class. I am serious about fishing and tend not to whine a great deal. Just when I do not get my way.
I do live in Portland, and of course I can bring donuts. I am a teetotaler that likes good coffee.
Fishing is fun but I like catching.

Putting feelers out to see if anyone is interested in fishing Saturday. I need to be off the water by about three I'm thinking, and would like to launch pretty early to beat crowds at the launch at least. It's gonna be a garaunteed zoo out there. Not positive I'm going to go, but was just curious if anyone would be interested in hopping in my boat, or might be fishing a half day and have space in theirs?
If it's my boat we'll launch at Marine Park and fish Davis Bar and vicinity with 200 of my closest buddies.

I've heard alot of good things about your fishing ability and that you are a real good fellow. I'd love to go along. I can make a mean egg scramble and I always bring Beddar Cheddars for lunch. :-)
Plus I like to chip in for gas. I have all my own gear etc and can get some herring brined for the run if needed. lmk about that stuff.
May I ask where your launching from to help determine my drive distance?
LOL, I thought I'd be all over this one, Like I said your known as a good fisherman and it shows by how fast people speak up for the seats. Good luck you guys, Hammer 'em!

My fishin buddy is sick and my wife has to work this weekend 22nd and 23rd, so I will have one open seat Sat and Sun. Will be fishing the head of the channel around Fred's to start Sat and depending on the bite might hit the lower channel Sun. Sat will be for Springers but might switch to sturgeon for a bit if nothing is happening. I have bait for both but you can bring your own if you want. Also have gear, right or left handed set ups. Boat is 19.5 ft glass with a low cut top. I hit the ramp by around 5 am and fish till 4 or 5 ish. There is no drinking on my boat ( alchohol) but you can smoke if you want ( it's your lungs not mine). No problem if you have to leave early I can drop you off back at the ramp. I will be out getting the boat ready so call me on my cell ..503-793-4875

:yeahthat: Great site. Here's my deal ifishers. I fish out of a 21 ft Custom Weld Storm with GPS, fish finder, VHF- have done this in the Big C since 02 and am often all alone, but I like more lines in the water. Boat can hold 6, but fish 4 comfortably. Until this year I've moored at Port of Camas Washougal, but was late getting in so now I'm towing. I can use help launching and loading, and since I use EZ steer, can use help tending lines if trolling. No alcohol on the boat, PFDs if moving or anchoring. I'm happy to have the boat catch fish. Some of my fishing partners have rewarded me with a filet after a successful trip. That's nice but not necessary. I fish salmon, steelhead, sturgeon. Would like to learn walleye and bass (I may have to with all the closures.) I've fished the river from Kalama to Bonneville, but I know the Caterpillar Island to Bonneville stretch best. I mostly fish weekends. I'm age 58. Safe and sane. If you want to be on my list for future trips please send email to me with your contact info. banjoz@ix.netcom.com I'll make a list and check it twice before I go to the river. Unfortunately, not today. Gotta work. :hoboy:

I was running the clack solo today and just after landing a nice native springer a bank fisherman asked me if I landed it or lost it. I did not realize how far down river the fish took me until I was finally back up river getting a new leader and bait ready, anyway the guy seemed to be a pretty good guy and I ended up inviting him to fish with me, he gladly excepted. We fished hard and found out we both have one thing in common (we both enjoy fishing). I had a really great time and got to know a fellow fisherman. I would have never thought of asking someone on the bank to join me if it weren't for seeing this OPEN SEATS post. I did and all went well, I had a great day thanks... You must still have confidence in the fishery if your going back up. Talk to you soon.

Will be heading to the Wilson this weekend to bank it. Don't know how the fishing is, but going to try it anyway. If anyone wants to tag along a little help with gas is appreciated. I'm 25, like to bs, and like to fish hard. Going to bring the noodle rod, the bait caster, and the fly rod (in case I have to hook up with a trout). Shoot a pm if interested.

Yeah PapaHog, I had a great time up there. We didn't get into the halibut but we got plenty of bass and lingcod. I posted a mini report on the Salty Dawg.

Sturgeon fishing out of the fishery tomorrow, Thurs the 1st. Already have one new ifisher going, and have room for one more.
Will be meeting in PDX @ 6:30 and driving up, staying until we've all the fun I can stand. Request you bring a couple 2 or 3 36-40oz weights. They've been getting snagged so plan on donating them to the cause, Lord knows I have. If you want to pitch in for gas that will be apprecciated. I've got the poles and the bait.

One seat available for Saturday June 3rd.
Going to fish spinners and or bait in the Willy down in the harbor area. Launching at Cathedral Park at 6:00 AM. Will be off the water no later then noon.
No experience necessary but helpful. Ideal candidate should be well versed in sarcasm and must be able to give as much lip service as receive. Outlandish fish stories during the day may result in another trip in the future. Must be willing to reel in a tasty springer should the opportunity arise. Sharp hooks and tight knots a must.
Perfect responder would be 26 years of age, female with prior modeling experience, But if that doesn't work out I'll take one of you salty old guys that hang out on INTERNET fishing boards.
With any luck we won't have to tackle the Class 5 rapids that lay between the St Johns Bridge and the head of the channel.
Vessel is a 21ft North River Scout that sometimes gets lucky and hooks a fish.
If this sounds like you and you can meet the criteria listed above please send me a private message. Hope to have things buttoned down tonight by 8:00 PM.

Hmm... still no offers. Perhaps its my ad. lets try a different ad: (I can only fish on Friday or Saturday now). Experience boat fisherman looking for captain that doesn't want to put his boat in and out of the water by himself, set-up the rod, bait and get the rods out AND run the boat and net the biggest fish of his life all by himself. Would like some interesting conversation about fishing. Would like to make there fishing trip a little cheaper by getting some gas money. Interested captains please PM me.
I think its interesting to see so many people in boats all by them selves. I hate boating by myself. Its alot of work and I find it boring.

SUNDAY Merwin Kokes. Anybody??
What do you mean by this. Lots of people will be at Merwin on Sunday.
This being an open seat thread I assume you are offering an open seat in your boat?
If that is so I would accept an open seat for Kokes any other day but Sunday. (never fished for them before) I don't even know where lake Merwin is.

I was wondering if there will be open seats posted here for ocean fishing out of Garibaldi or the CR or should I be checking the Salty Dog board? Maybe both?
I love to fish the ocean. Will be watching for open seats for any fishing but keeping a close eye for open seats on the ocean.
