After my recent move to Washington, I am now having to re apply reg numbers to my boat. According to the directions, it says the numbers need to be applied to the foward half of the bow. My question is could I apply the new registration numbers to the side glass on my windshield? I have a Thunderjet, and there isn't much room to apply the numbers in front of the windshield. Would this still be legal? Opinions welcome! :help:

Pickles,

I have my numbers located exactly where you are talking about, under my window, and have never had any problems. I have been approached by the sherrif dept on 2 occasions and went through a safty inspection, on another occasion, prior to getting on the water on Labor day weekend and haven't had any problems. I do live in CA though. Good Luck

This from the State Marine Board Website Rules and Regulations:

(3) These numbers shall be placed on each side of the forward half of the vessel in such a position as to provide clear legibility for identification The numbers shall read from left to right and shall be in block characters of good proportion not less than three inches in height. The numbers shall be of a color which will contrast with the color of the background and so maintained as to be clearly visible and legible; i.e., dark letters on a light background, or light letter on a dark background.

no worries pickle, that shuold be just fine. As long as the letters contrast the background, are proper size (3"), and the decal is at the rear of the numbers with proper spacing, you'll be just fine.
good luck with the application.
