I keep my 21' dory in my garage. Often I notice a pronounced gasoline smell that seems to be incidental leakage from the fuel tanks and hoses. Is there a fix for this?

I have a Johnson 88 hp two-stroke. The fuel system is very simple--just a pair of 12 gal plastic Tempo tanks strapped down forward of the console. The tanks have standard outboard barbs on them, and I just snap a regular outboard fuel hose to the barbs. It is a standard setup with a squeeze bulb.

Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

You could check the external hoses on the engine and replace any that are cracked or broken. Also run the gas out of the engine before trailering or tilt the engine down when stored. Close the vents on the tanks and check the other hoses and fittings for leakage.

Problem Solved! There was a bit of red plastic from the Tempo tank lodged in the non-return valve in the brass barb. When the tank warmed up, the air inside expanded, and forced fuel up through the barb where it started dripping.

I cleaned out the non-return valve, and it no longer leaks. Thanks Boat Doc, for your response.
